I think you are wrong. I think the Nationalist Chinese have been used to living as an independent, free state for 3/4 of a century. I don’t think they’d give up without fighting and it would be very difficult for the Communist Chinese to invade and occupy Taiwan without resort to massive destructive air strikes on Taiwan’s cities and populace and at great cost to their own military. It would not be like Germany waltzing into Austria or the Taliban motoring into Kabul. (BTW: we keep hearing about Taliban “fighters”, but they sure haven’t had to do much fighting.)

Taiwan has been buying nasty things from the Israeli's for years. There is also something of a gentleman's agreement between the non aligned in the region. Too much of an unknown for the PRC, especially the Indian reaction.

Practical for sure. Practical is waiting for your enemy to make their weakness shown and known and then moving fast. We'll see.

If we can’t defeat the Taliban, we can’t defeat China. Sucks for the people of Taiwan, but is it our job to pour our resources, tax dollars and lives into policing other countries half a world away?

KMT is losing ground in Taiwan in favor of a Taiwanese identity/independence movement during Xi’s reign in China.

More citizens from the younger generations consider themselves Taiwanese than Chinese.

I don’t know if it matters if Taiwan considers itself a part of China, but under a different political system and ruling party, or if they claim they are a completely separate and autonomous nation.

China views Taiwan as a part of China. They are firm in their belief Taiwan should be under the control of China and the CCP. To them it’s not a legitimate government, and certainly not an independent country.

Most long-lasting, stable governments in the history of the world have been tyrannical.
Only in the context of Western Europe and North America for a couple hundred years is that view applicable.

China has never, at any point, had a representative government or a tradition of civil liberties. Tyranny is no factor on fragility there.

Unfortunately, a nuclear arsenal and an impressive array of offensive weapons, both physical and virtual, coupled with the fact many believe he may be one of the richest people in the world, makes him more than just a paper tiger, imo. Kim is a paper tiger; all talk with little action. Putin has moved in many ways to remake the great Soviet Union.

Revenge for us being distracted by the Middle East and domestic political squabbles for the last 20 years, allowing the Chinese economy and hegemony to expand and flourish? They're happy as pigs in shite with our "leadership" over the past 20 years.

When you see an enemy busy digging their own grave, why would you spill any of your own sweat to help? They'll finish the job on their own, eventually.

The should do it now while Biden is on vacation.

China will be 100% victorious before he even has any time to respond.

It would have pissed them off a lot more if they were competing as Taiwan instead of Chinese Taipei.

It’s going to take at least a month for them to have the logistics to do it. It’s why the Chinese State media announced they were doing drills since our satellites would know they were congregating in their southeast.

I honestly don't think the CCP cares, denying their enemies cheap raw materials for superconductors might be worth having to bother tactically genociding people that hate them before proceeding to toss up blocks and blocks of paper-concrete apartments for their colonists.

Fine with me. Taiwan is part of China. It's the last vestige of the Chinese Civil War. If the confederates escaped to Key West it would still be rebel territory and a part of the US.

It is part of China. The island of Taiwan has always been part of China. It's like how Normandy has always been part of France. There has never been an independent state on Taiwan until the KMT fled to the island. It is part of China.
