New Orleans is straight up ridiculous right now
I went to NOLA a few weeks ago and we were walking in the FQ when two guys approached us - I had on a key west shirt and he asked me if I had ever been and I said yeah, we went last may, it’s a lot like New Orleans - and he said ‘man, you’re from here’

I have no clue what his motive was but he left us alone

Have you been to New Orleans? Do you think there is crime around every corner at every time of the day? There are unsafe situations that you can put yourself in, but when we go now we typically stay Uptown and there's no reason not to feel safe walking around Uptown during daylight hours.

I was there this past year for the first time in awhile. We did this and felt fine walked on canal as well several times and hit up some places.

However it was disgusting and smelt like shite/piss everywhere you walked. Unless I absolutely have to go there, you won’t find me in NOLA anytime soon.

Also I was at mandinas not long before that place got shot up. So saying you don’t feel safe in NOLA is a legitimate statement.

Even if I felt that way, which I don't (I've been to Atlanta hundreds of times and never had any problems), I'd be too proud to admit it. It seems sort of woman-like.

Depends. I was in Atlanta a few months back and enjoyed myself. Even with the fam, kids, etc. We went all over downtown at night, during the day, etc.

I've spent a ton of time in Houston and Dallas and never had any problems. I've walked the streets of San Francisco and aside from stepping over human shite, felt relatively safe. I've walked down Hollywood Blvd in LA and felt safe.

I was in NYC last year. Times Square feels inherently unsafer than it has in my previous years.

I feel unsafe in New Orleans at all times. I feel unsafe in downtown Baton Rouge as well. It is what it is.

People's perception about their safety is colored by how familiar they are with a place. If you don't go to cities often, you will be unfamiliar with your surroundings and more likely to be uncomfortable. Put me in the most dangerous neighborhood in my city and I'll know exactly where I am, how much danger I am in, and how to get out of it. I won't feel unsafe. Put me in a dangerous neighborhood in a place I am less familiar with, like Chicago, and I am shitting bricks.

Did you get away from the FQ and Mid-City? It doesn't smell at all Uptown, and you shouldn't feel unsafe there. Sure, if you're hanging out after dark in the FQ going down side streets, you should probably feel unsafe. But, you should also not put yourself in that situation.

Uptown is kind of its own little bubble. It feels like Mayberry sometimes. Lakeview is still safe but continues to be a target for property crimes. The French Quarter has gone downhill and thugs have seemingly been using Mid-City to settle their beefs.

I go to downtown Atlanta once/twice per week and have never once felt unsafe or mean mugged for being white or anything a lot of people on this TD website and the national media want you to believe.

Now, would I go down to south Atlanta? NO.

I don't want to step in cow shite either, so when I'm in a pasture, I watch my step.

Same as when I'm walking around that shithole...

I witnessed a dude getting murdered in Key West when I was about 13 or so. I don't remember the exact year - early 90s.

Yes, I went down for a job interview. I declined a second interview because I said there was no way I was going to move there. Not only did I feel unsafe, but it was also depressing to see what it has become.
