Schools, especially ones with little children, don’t consider it a “real fever” until you hit 101.5 F because kids run hot.

But don’t be a dick and send a kid to school if you know she’s sick

We need to get you to the CDC. you are some sort of human flu test...

Like, how in the actual frick could you know what strain of virus or bacteria is making her sick?

the 98.4 is a bad statistic number btw and not the average human temp but for another day

No, let's discuss this now. 98.6 is the purported average, so yes... 98.4 is in fact a bad statistic.

No.

100.4F is the only cutoff involving temperatures.

Core temp is very subjective... I run colder than 98.6°... normally around ~96.8... so if I’m at 99°+ I have a pretty good fever...

100.4 is the standard threshold for fever.

They are a private episcopal school where parents check their kids out to go snow skiing etc. They hired a new VP or something this year and she has decided these spoiled kids and parents are getting reeled in and been stressing class attendance like it’s the holy grail. (She will last two years max.)

This is 100% accurate. I just wanted to know if anyone on here, medical or otherwise had heard anything about this being associated with some limit for cornovirius or something

My daughter who just got back from class trip to Disneyworld Monday (where her roommate and several other kids got violently ill), just got really sick, fever chills, nausea, difficulty breathing and fever of 99 plus constantly, etc was just told she needed to stay in school unless and until her fever hits 101.5.

How serious is the difficulty breathing? Like she is actually having problems catching her breath and breathing or she has nasal congestion?

It is very possible. I mean it could be the flu, it could be the corona, it could be the common cold. Tell her to stay home and stay hydrated unless that difficulty breathing is actually trouble breathing.

Did I miss some CDC or public health announcement about 101.5 being the magic number?

No you did not miss the PHA. However, the scientific threshold for a low-grade fever is 38.0C or 100.4°F using a rectal thermometer. Since nobody uses a rectal thermometer and the forms of thermometers (i.e the forehead scanner or ear thermometer) that most people use are less accurate the threshold is higher. If it is less than 101.5°F using a non-rectal thermometer it is not a fever just an elevated body temperature.

98.6 is the average daily body temp across the entire population. But baseline averages are different for a given person and change over time of day.

You are so full of shite, but I'll humor you

told by whom?

If she makes everyone else sick I am laying all this at administrations feet.

You're her dad, just keep her home from school if you're so concerned for the well being of the other kids. I'm sure the administration is trembling at the thought of you laying this at their feet in a some facebook rant
