When an inch of snow shuts down a city, its objectively funny.

Went to a wedding in Maine a few years ago during August. Before I got there, I thought to myself, "this will be a nice escape from the August heat in Louisiana." I couldn't have been more wrong. There was a record high temperature in the area during the weekend we were all there (high 90s, high humidity).

To make matters worse, the church was not equipped with AC (because, frankly, it's not necessary 99.9% of the year, even during summertime). Fortunately, the officiant did the "express ceremony" and got us out of there in a hurry.

As I sat in a hotel for Ida and turned on the news the only thing I saw was how NYC was flooding. The world doesn't exist outside of the northeast to those folks, and when they are going through a tough time it is the worst thing to ever happen. They can all kiss my arse and sweat it out.

up North heat is nothing like down here. I was in NY state years ago during a 3 day August heat wave. 92-94 degrees during the day for 3 days. Road work shut down, Hope depot was all a buzz with people buying fans, News top stories about heat, people bitching, etc.

I thought it was great weather. It was only in the 90s for about 4 hours. The evenings felt awesome and got in the low 60s at night. The last day of the heat wave hit 58 at night.

It's easier to deal with cold than heat.

OP is right and wrong at the same time

The southern states don't deal with freeze or snow any better than northern states deal with extreme heat. It's more of a topic because of the mass media in those northern states but regardless of the region you're in, people struggle with abnormal weather patterns.

Neither is better or worse than the other and you've got to be a special kind of stupid to argue one over the other

Sounds miserable. Just like it sounds miserable to not have it right now in the northeast

The old saying, you can always put more clothes on, you can't walk around naked. 100 degrees is hot, I don't care who or where you are.

Muscle mass keeps you warmer, slick. It is able to regulate cold/heat far better than fat or normal body mass.

In UK, many homes and cars do not have "air con" as they say (air conditioning).

That is the difference.

In the south, there are heaters.

Talked to a friend of mine in Duluth, MN over the weekend. He told me it was in the 90s for several days and thought they were gonna die.

No AC and hot weather is a bitch up North!

Do you have window units?

Many homes/autos in UK have NO AC, central or other.

Same here. It hits 80 only a couple times a summer. 70 maybe a dozen times on average.

I'm on the top floor of a 12 story bldg, its hot when the temp gets over 75. Probably will not need much heat in winter.

It is 40 C (100 F) in London right now.

Not the same humidity but still quite hot, especially in still air, for a home that counts on a breeze. Uncomfortable for avg citizen and can be life threatening for elderly.
