It’s been this way for years. It’s labeled US holidays and adds more than just muslim holidays including some others that I have never heard of or just doesn’t apply to myself. The problem is that while you can choose not to display it you cannot unsubscribe from it. It’s the only calendar that I cannot unsubscribe from and defaults to being displayed unless carrying settings from older iPhone when setting up new phone. It will still occasionally get turned on by an update or some weird situations, but that has been happening a lot less the past couple of years. The birthday calendar turns itself on sometimes as well, but at least I control what birthdays are included.
Copy the holidays that you want into your own created holiday calendar and then don’t display Apple’s anymore. It will still update in the background (touches base with server occasionally) and be on phone, but you will not see it on your calendar app for the most part outside of an occasional need to turn it off from displaying when it turns itself back on sporadically.

I actually do care, just not in the way most people mean it. Knowing what holidays the people around me are celebrating at any given time is useful information, even if the holiday otherwise means nothing to me. I can't fathom being so much of a sensitive snowflake that it would bother me to see a holiday I didn't observe on a calendar.
