Back when this website first started, one could make an account with an lsu.edu email address (not sure if you still can). I rocked on a while with an account tied to that email, but one day LSU purged a bunch of email handles, and a lot of people that didn’t have user info stored up lost their original username on here. TD was fun when it was just the Tiger Rant with a bunch of random arse threads on one page.

Hunting is second to none. Lots of deer and lots of big ones. You’ll never want to hunt anywhere else.

Conservative people, very friendly and outgoing. Low crime and low cost of living

Food is ok not great compared to Louisiana

It does get pretty damn cold in January and February. I’d trade that over a Louisiana summer any day

They have 4 actual seasons as opposed to here. I’d pack my shite

Iowa City is very cool college town. Also home to one of the best Academic Medical Centers around. A lot of kids from the suburbs of Chicago and Minneapolis come there for a true college experience.

The people are awesome and very down to earth. Definitely a quiet state as a whole. If you are married and have kids, I think it would be a great place to raise a family. Des Moines is a solid mid-sized town with a cool downtown area. You also can get cheap flights from Cedar Rapids (just north of Iowa City) to Chicago if you want fun weekend trip (>5 hour drive if not).

Food is solid but obviously going to get crushed by Louisiana cuisine. But typical fun college town food and good bars. I bet game day there is fun.

Hunting is incredible. If you are in to whitetail, the deer my Iowa rep has bagged over the years are just stupid. I'm talking all of them 160+.

No idea on the fishing but I would imagine they have solid fishing.

Winters are pretty rough.

I would have no problem raising a family there and cost of living is very low.

IIRC Iowa is among the top 2 or 3 whitetail deer hunting states in the country. Not sure about other hunting.

It is safe, decent options for arts/theater. Cost of living is relatively low. Lots of nice local restaurants. If you have specific questions let me know. Also the post above that said Chicago is a 5 hour drive is way off. I can be from Iowa city to being parked in downtown Chicago right about 3.5hrs

The quality of life in much of the Midwest is pretty underrated if you don't mind the cold weather.

This is incredibly true. There are a lot of baws here who would probably enjoy it more than where they are, but have warped misgivings about the area (just like Midwesterners have about the South). Rural America is rural America, just different flavors.

well compared to

Utah...

if the Western States Utah ,Wyoming, the Dakotas. Idaho and the like are going to be a grade A

Iowa would be a B

even Texas, LA would be a B compared to big-game potential out west

I could live in Iowa and I despise the cold. Spent a week in DesMoines a few years back .. liked it. Was near Drake University as well as the western confines

Dude. It’s freezing by Halloween thru May. It’s cold as frick.

I’d still do it. It’s nice there, but don’t kid yourself. It’s cold as frick. There’s a reason there people flock to Florida.

Looks like a nice clean town to me. Really easy drive over to Madison as well, which I really like. Could go to a game in Camp Randall which of course looks like a blast.

but they clearly weren't the smart ones.

I have been up that way several times for work. not too bad for a college town honestly. not too far from Cedar Rapids, and a few hours from the Field of dreams field, if you like movie and sports nostalgia

You are only as miserable as your gear. It's easy to be comfortable in -10 (unless the wind is fricking nuts).
