A 60-year-old woman walking a 1/4 mile down a rural road, up a 600' driveway and then knocking on a complete stranger's door at 6pm... nothing, nothing at all.

-It’s a quarter mile. She didn’t do a half marathon to get to you.
-Sounds like your house is the closest?
-She’s widowed so likely lonely
-She’s an older woman, so she probably has safety concerns.
-Being older, she grew up in a time when people knew their neighbors.

Atypical in 2025? Maybe but given the context, it’s valid to wonder why you find this so weird…did she act strange?

Man, what the frick has this board become?
Making a simple post is now considered running to the internet and asking strangers to solve all of your worldly problems?

Asking a question and you're now considered weird, introverted, an a-hole ,rude and annoyed.

I'm really just fricking with you at this point.

Would I do it? No.

Is it weird for a widowed older woman living alone to do? Not really. She probably wants to know if she really needed help she could ask you.

we always make it a point to welcome new neighbors to our street.

I like having a strong sense of community and everyone looks out for each other.

Yesterday afternoon around 6pm a lady knocked on our front door and said she was stopping by to introduce herself since she bought the house down the road. It's about 1/4 mile away.

this is why I have a gate and close it as soon as I get home. I'm more than happy to meet you. On my terms.

Is this normal? Do you introduce yourselves to your new neighbors whenever you move?
Yes.
But this is a generational expectation.
When people move into our area, I usually stop over and at least introduce myself. If they are from out of town, I will offer to help them learn the area. Helped the latest one unload his truck with my equipment - ramp, cart and refrigerator dolly. Been good friends ever since. Just an investment in a good relationship with a new neighbor.
If we are new to an area, we hope that people say hello and usually someone will.
Sadly, this welcoming tradition seems to be fading as we become a more isolated society.

In the hood they just drive by and bust a few caps in your window to establish boundaries. Must respect.

The proper thing is for the older neighbors to introduce yourself. But it’s no big deal if the other way around.

I talk to those adjacent to my property and offer to help them if can (including my skilled trade for free) just to be neighborly. We not going to be friends, but we can be friendly.

If they're dickheads they can kiss my prodigious arse and rot.

She said that she lives alone and that her husband died last year. She's probably in her 60's if I had to guess.

On a country road by herself at that age she probably feels lonely and maybe a bit uneasy and is just looking for friendly people nearby to befriend or at minimum be able to contact in case of emergency or needing help with something. Just be nice and neighborly with her and tell her to contact y’all if she ever needs anything
