Are we seeing much more blown out tire scraps on I-12/10? Is no one picking it up or is it happening more frequently? Are truckers “running to failure”?

The number of 2008-2016 Nissan Altimas with bald tires driving around Louisiana may have something to do with it.

If it’s trucks, they are recaps. Every tire but the front wheels. That’s why truckers should have a stick with a steel wrap to “knock” the tires to verify ever tire is inflated…..every time they stop for a break.

However, we have idiots that can’t speak English, don’t have a legal CDL and everything else on the road…….who cares anymore?

Not everyone uses recaps. With the flood of cheap, Asian tires entering the US, recaps aren't as desirable as they used to be.

Truck recaps, also called retreads or remolds, are used tires where the worn-out tread is replaced with new rubber, extending tire life and offering significant cost savings for fleets, making up nearly half the North American truck tire market by providing performance similar to new tires at a fraction of the price.

I’ve watched them for years now. No one is checking tires anymore. Trucker is to blame.

Dealing with OTR trucks on a regular basis I can attest to Truckers running on bald tires!

I’ve seen them for decades, recap debris that is. Not sure if it’s increased, but the number of tractor trailers have.

One of my kids was in an accident on I-12 last year. I went to get them and had to walk a couple hundred yards down the interstate. You would not believe the amount of shite on the side of the road that you can’t see from your car. Unbelievable.

You will see more when the weather changes from cold to warmer. Yes drivers don't do proper pre checks of their equipment before starting the day. Just laziness sadly like any workforce, cutting corners

I think (unless it’s changed) chemical carriers can’t use recaps

Truckers call the big recaps that fall off and lay in the road “gators.”

The trash on Louisiana interstate roadways is astounding. Tires, debris, everything. I've never seen it so bad.
DOD isn't picking up the debris anymore obviously.

TXDOT seems to do a much better job. It's rare I'll see a piece of tread on the side of I-10 two days in a row.

I had to get a new tire, and my tire shop I always go to would not get the one I needed for a couple of days, so I went to another shop.

Guy asked if I wanted a new or used tire. I was like wait people buy used tires for their cars?

He told me 80 percent of his tires sold are used,

Some of the trucks I’ve seen the rag heads driving should not be on the road.

I did the same thing….guy at the tire store suggested it. I was skeptical, but I got a used tire basically identical to the other three and the charge was $25!

Come to find out, lots of people change tires out periodically, regardless of wear. Tire shops have always got them…particularly the OEM tires from something like a domestic truck.
