And this is a joke that it will take 5 years to do that project. In about a year or so NTTA has widened the DNT, Built 114 Texpress, and now widening Bush.
It took them 2 years to dig out 635 Texpress and add multiple layer freeways.
Sounds like a typical Louisiana bullshite project that will never be done right and overbudget.

Wasn't this early 2000's? I am pretty sure I was still in the state when they were doing this. It took forever.

And they know what "plan for the future" means. Look at I35 between Austin and San Antonio. Not only is it 6-laned, but has frontage roads on both sides.

Adding a lane in each direction from the bridge to the split is going to be big.

No, they are doing it AGAIN because La DOTD couldn't plan 10 years into the future.

There are studies that say traffic is unsolvable at this point unless population is stagnant or declining. If you are behind you cannot catch up due to population growing. It takes too long to build infrastructure.
That is why other solutions need to be considered in addition to infrastructure. Working from home or working at office less days. AI driven cars, trains, bike paths, etc.

The out of state company that got the widening project in front of the mall fricked it up so bad that the state removed them from the project.
Out of state companies are not some fix all solution.

If you baws would stop being cheap asses and okay a toll road Harris County RTA is just as good as NTTA and can knock it out for you.

They're trying to do the same east of 75 all the way to I30, but it keeps getting delayed. The state doesn't want to approve any new road projects that include toll roads.

You're missing the point entirely but so are most in Louisiana.
A bypass is needed to divert interstate traffic around Baton Rouge. Especially big trucks. Locals could use the existing infrastructure once you get interstate traffic off of it.
That's why it's called an INTERstate.

The first thing you’re missing is that there is local traffic (Lafayette to Lake Charles) that wishes to bypass the new bridge because of how dangerous and slow it is. These people are trying to get to New Orleans. Additionally, you have people from South Baton Rouge, Ascension and Iberville who would use the brand new bridge and relieve traffic going west on I-10. I’d speculate that you could reduce the traffic 20% both ways with this new bridge.

I'm with you, buthe problem comes about in the legislature from the rural politicians in places like St. Helena and Allen, etc. They have bad roads and if you want something done via infrastructure you HAVE to kiss their arses. They want a new road, a new community center, upgrades on the school buildings etc. and they will gum up the works.
Also, Louisiana has more NIMBY's per square mile than just about any other state, particularly in the places that need the infrastructure spending badly.

Also, the south bypass helps people in Ascension Parish and EBR get to DOW in Plaquemine, which is another major source of traffic at peak times on the I-10 Bridge and on LA-1.

I believe it will take them at least 5 years and a bit more than $300 million.
It will be totally worth it, but construction happens slowly on Louisiana's roads.
