Who said anything about a toll? How will a toll pay for a brand new interstate + bridge that merely bypasses traffic for i-10 but ignores interstate traffic coming across i-12? How many cars a day do you expect to go on there and how much will they pay?

The answer is Plaquemine point to the south, a highway connecting LA-415 to new bridge at Plaquamine to the west, and a northern bypass that connects the old bridge to I-10 somewhere around Walker, and a southern highway that connects the plaquemine bridge to I-10 somewhere around Highland/Prarieville area and then to I-12 somewhere around Walker.
We could call it a loop of sorts and charge a toll for its usage. The toll would last until the highway is paid for.

Very difficult and VERY expensive to widen a bridge without reducing the roadway width on the existing temporarily. You need access to get materials and machinery to the location. You have several elevated sections (bridges) within this stretch that will need widening.

They’re doing to to a large stretch of DNT right now with multiple highway overpasses. They do most of the work at night. Obviously not as involved as a bridge though.

Supposedly they will fix some alignment issues as well as add inside and outside shoulders.
Hopefully that reduces traffic accidents.

I was about to say they did the northbound section of the DNT with no lane closures except in the middle of the night and even then the far right lane was walled off anyway from the work during the day. Still had three lanes available.

I'm glad that my daily commute doesn't involve I-10 but I imagine this will put more vehicles on the surface streets during construction.
