How many of you actually "tape" off? Yesterday, I spent more time taping my bedroom than I did painting. I realize there are some things that I am good at and painting isn't one of them.

What is the likelihood of finding a painter at the Home Depot on Coursey Boulevard to finish what I started?

I painted my first child's room before he was born. One of those "daddy" moments. I spent more time taping than painting. The time and headache isn't worth it to me. I've hired someone ever since.

Other than touching up here and there, I will hopefully never paint again.

My wife paints all of our trim and never uses tape.

Her lines look better than the tape lines do, IMO.

I'm like a 4 year old w/ a crayon, so I don't touch the trim. If I HAD to do it, I would have to use tape. Just depends on how skilled the painter is.

I worked in the diy paint industry for years (sales side) and I told everyone that prep is 75% of the work.

Also painting is one thing I will ALWAYS hire someone to do and refuse.

Yeah, I don't tape off either. Always peels up looking shitty. These little sponge liners work okay but I usually just end up painting by hand.

I did the same exact thing for my daughter before her arrival. It was a great feeling and sense of accomplishment.

That was 11 years ago. And I'm not too fond of getting up on a ladder, then back down, up on a ladder and then back down for taping.

I certainly won't disagree with you.

I'm now on this side of the fence.

Learn how to "cut in" and you will never use tape again. Its still a pain in the arse but at least you skip the taping off.

Only tape baseboards (b/c of roller spray) and corners that change color (cleaner line and roller side rub).

I'm in the middle of repainting my whole house. I taped off the floor where the baseboard meets it, but free handed everything else. Once you get in a groove of running your brush the right way next to doors and baseboards, it's not as difficult.

It all depends on how you paint. I'm pretty good at taping, and would rather spend the time to do that than go extra slow and careful up around the ceiling. I don't bother taping the baseboards. I have a nice angled brush and can get those edges nice and just wet paper towel any spots that get on the trim. I did use one of those rollers once, and it was nice, but the one time you end up getting the tiniest bit of paint on a wheel you don't realize it until you've rolled about a 4-6 inch section and see it on the ceiling.

The paint matters and the brush matters. Trying to do edge work with a cheap throwaway chip brush is awful.

I never tape. Paint molding first. "Cut" in with wall paint using a good brush. Roll the main part of the wall. Takes time to cut in a straight line, buts faster than taping.

I've been painting my house for the past month or so and started out taping the first room and won't be doing any other rooms. That shite is pointless, IMO. Huge waste of time
