I know every time I see residents of NBR perusing the aisles of Sam’s with their free food cards, they’re always loading up the cart with fresh and healthy food items. This plan is great and I applaud the mayor for allocating resources towards it. There will be less fried food and fatties in the hood. Maybe some pop up veggie parties serving lean meats that aren’t fried will happen and we can all live happily side by side. Alton would have wanted it this way.
I'm glad I know a joke when I see one. Good one!

It takes a special kind of a-hole to constantly bully people less privledged than you are. And before you CJWs get your panties in a bunch I'm not talking about race. You convict the 90% for the negative actions of 10%, with your all poor people are lazy thugs who take advantage of the govt. Most poor people come from nothing, have low IQs, or have gone through an unlucky break that derailed their lives. None of these deserve the kind of hatred that is spewed at them, and half you clowns claim to be christians despite your opposing actions. How about just be a decent fricking human being? Not everyone is as lucky as you, many have worked much harder for less.

Take a fraction of that money and use it to clear the “blight” and fertilize the lots. Give out seeds for planting crops. I fixed your problem.

Will Allen from Milwaukee developed a system of feeding 10,000 people with 3 acres of land.

Friend of mines family used to own Section 8 apartment complexes in NBR

One year the principal from the local elementary school came by and asked for some help. They were trying to set up parent teacher conferences but parents were complaining they couldn’t find transportation to the school. The Principal asked if they had an area that could be used. No problem. We can get that set up for you. Posted flyers everywhere. Teachers showed up. 304 children living in the complex. Roughly half went to that school

One parent got off the couch to walk downstairs to talk about their kids education. One

Please quit with the argument that these folks are not largely lazy thugs. They are largely lazy thugs. There is for the most part no chance to actually help them. The generational thuggery and living off of the government lifestyle is unbreakable. Oh, and by the way. They are not hard workers who just had some bad luck. They are in way too many instances completely worthless

People are not mean or indecent for pointing out this reality.

have you been to NBR? Please take a hour out of your work day. Drive around in the morning...you will notice no one is up. Then go after noon. You will seen people walking the streets, sitting on porches, grilling and hanging out...This isn't just made up it is fact.

So they have to use $2 million to get a grocery store in NBR?

This is complete fricking insanity.

The tax payers will have to prop it up annually to keep it open.

No, I don’t work at Sam’s. I usually base it off of what day of the month or proximity to what day of the month it is and what items are in the cart. It’s not difficult to figure out.

Poor people are cool. I’ve been poor. I even lost my life’s savings in my 40s on a bad investment/ business failure. Almost all Americans go up and down the economic ladder in their lives and I would agree that poverty itself is not an indication of a person ‘s virtue any more than wealth is.

That said, if you exhibit various social pathologies, don’t take personal responsibility for your own upward mobility, don’t keep your nose clean, don’t enthusiastically support the social contract, - that’s on you. And none of Mayor Broome’s KLEPTOSTATE wealth transfers are going to change that.

There aren’t any groceries in the north part of the city. Not a lot of transportation either. This is the reality of the situation.

Some of you guys don’t know how good you have it.

Simply not true. And there would be more if it was practical and the demand was there.

There used to be a Pete’s farmers market on airline and north foster. In 2008 or so a clerk was murdered during a robbery, I know it is permanently closed now, not sure if it was because of the murder or not. Either way it was there for at least 30 years, then closed. It’s not like there were never any stores there, especially stores that sold healthy foods, there were. It all boils down to the old saying, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” They will open these new stores, but will they last for any significant amount of time. Ultimately these are businesses, and someone has to pay otherwise they will leave.

This is incorrect, there maybe few but there are definitely groceries in North Baton Rouge.
Hi-Neighbor Supermarket is on Winbourne near airline and it has been there for as long as I can remember. Don’t know how well it’s doing but it’s there. It’s probably the largest, but there are others, maybe they should work out a program with the existing stores Encouraging them to stock healthier options and see how it goes.

Edit to fix spelling of encouraging.
