Dealership said bring it in. Service dept was closed when I purchased it so they couldn't do it. Don't need license plate.

Might as well unless the dealer is a far drive. You already paid for it

In SELA it always pays to follow tradition, and tradition means paying.

First, get some cardboard and use an old license plate as a template to cut out a rectangle. Use a magic marker to write "License Applied For" and tape that anywhere on the back of your vehicle.

That'll hold you for a couple of years.

When the law catches up to you, they'll tell you how to actually get a license plate and registration.

After that, drive into any vehicle inspection station and pay them $10. They'll put a sticker on your windshield, and that's your receipt for paying the vig.

It depends. I live in BR and bought my last vehicle in Lafayette. They couldn't do the inspection sticker because of the emissions tests required in BR.

Yeah that makes sense due to our stupid emissions tests which are caused by plants to begin with.

well, they are supposed to check the brakes as a part of the inspection process....that is why they generally don't do it when it is raining outside.

Because back when I started to drive and my mom would ask me to drive up to the gas station to get the brake tag, you pulled in, turned on the lights, hit the high beams and then the brake pedal and you passed if all the lights worked.
So it was always called a brake tag since I can remember and the name has stuck

An admission that it has nothing to do with the brakes at all. Pushing the brake pedal to check the taillights.

You don't have to wait for your license plate to come in to get an inspection sticker. All you need is the temporary registration they give you when you purchase the vehicle.

eta: don't waste your money on it, go back to the dealership and have them give you one for free.

Apparently, it's a whole different process in New Orleans than in the rest of the state.

quote:

If your vehicle is registered in one of the following cities, you cannot complete your safety inspection at a state inspection station, and must contact your city's local Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) to get information on where to take your vehicle:
New Orleans
Kenner
Westwego

Because it is a "brake tag"....

https://www.nola.gov/brake-tags/inspections/

quote:

All vehicles registered in Orleans Parish must have a City of New Orleans brake tag. This includes motorcycles, scooters, RVs, and trailers. For more information, please refer to our eligibility requirements external link.
