I've always been enamored with abandoned structures, cities, shipwrecks and the like. I periodically checked in on the massive salvage effort that took place to raise this ship and float it off for demolition. I saw these pictures from the interior of the vessel prior to final demolition and I thought I would share.

2. Didn't the captain abandon the ship during the rescue?

He did and left those who died to their fate. I think they threw him in jail because of his actions. Not only did he abandon ship, he actually caused the accident that lead to her capsizing. If I remember correctly he had them run very close to the shore to show off for some resort town.

The overall recovery effort I believe went over 2 Billion Euros. The Costa's(Carnival) insurance company paid Titan Salvage and another company to flip the ship and float it out.
