If you got a 36 on it once.. what’s the benefit of taking it twice ? I don’t understand that .
People ask this every time I post it. First time she paid to take it on the weekend. The second time was at their school on a regular school day and it was mandatory for all juniors who were at school. Of course she could have stayed home, but it would have been an unexcused absence and they are only allowed a limited number.

Yeah, 10. Each semester.
Not to take away from her accomplishments but you probably heard the story wrong. She probably got a 36 on one section and did it twice.
If she gets a perfect score, no way the school forces her to take it twice and, in the million to one chance they do, no way she doesn't just take the UA for one day, unless she just really enjoys standardized testing.

Some dude from Rummel that many know on here know applied for every rotc scholarship he could and had zero intention of ever doing rotc in college. Hey, he had $1m in scholarships in the graduation program though.

College is stupid expensive.... and way overvalued. I got my associate to MBA quickly and cheaply. It’s regionally accredited but not known well.
Total cost by employer tuition assistance: $7k
Total Time: 2.5 Years
Did a single one of my employers since my MBA give a damn where it came from? Nope.
Kids have to be smarter. Don’t dive into a college major with no real direction or know how.

Why go to the school that will give you money above the price of the cost of tuition and room and board? Why go to a school of less repute than to a school of high renown? These questions are illustrative of why you yourself didn't get a bunch of scholarship money.
Personal anecdote to illustrate the point: I received a $25k a year offer to go to the University of Miami. Would still have forked over $15k a year to go there. I got $20k a year or whatever to go to LSU. It was free. Knowing I was going to grad school and having interviewed the faculty at both schools, I went with LSU despite it being a less respected school than Miami. But that's still $180k in scholarships and that's not counting the other schools I applied to. If I could've gone to Harvard and paid full freight or gone to LSU for free, not sure I'd have picked Harvard, to be honest.

I went to a prominent louisiana catholic high school graduation last week. It was an absolute cringe fest how much everyone patted themselves on the back in their speeches, which there were about 5 too many of them.
Not only that, but some of the faculty go up and make speeches where they mention students. Out of a graduation class of 120, they kept mentioning the same 10 students over and over, telling stories. Way to really make everyone feel included.
The whole time I'm thinking absolutely none of this matters beyond the night. It's incredible how much we try to reward and make people feel good about accomplishing the basic education requirements in this country.

Its nearly impossible for a Southern white person with means to get into the Northeastern elite schools. Its just the way it is. I know of a student who was a National Merit finalist, Valedictorian, 1580 SAT, athlete, senior class president, AP everything, who got waitlisted at Princeton (although he did get into Columbia and Cornell). Princeton ended up having a spot for him, but he was originally denied. The same year, there was a story of a homeless kid from Mississippi getting into Harvard. No where close to the credentials, but good story.
This is true and pretty ironic they have this attitude. I guess the really didn't mean that kind of diverse...

Bachelors to MBA in 2.5 years and already had the AS. The school I attended online was allowing me to knock out as many courses as possible in 6 month chunks. I didn’t have a life that whole time.

I have a friend who was his school valedictorian (back in the late 80's). He went to local community college for 2 years, transferred and got his 4 year degree, took his MCAT and went to med school. He's been a practicing OBGYN for 25 years or so.
The valedictorian the following year (from the same school) went to Dartmouth, got his degree, took his MCAT went to med school and has been a practicing Urologist for about 25 years or so.
Completely different paths out of High School with a very similar outcome.

I hate the articles that talk about people having a 4.2 GPA or whatever. Like what does that even mean if every school has some different scale. If 4.2 is the max, then that is great. If 8.0 is the max then that is awful.
The old 4.0 max scale was easier to sort through.
When I was in HS in the 80's...AP courses were graded on a 5.0 scale. All other classes were on a 4.0 scale. So, 35 years ago, you had kids who had perfect scores graduating with something like a 4.2 GPA.

If you got a perfect score why would you take it twice?
I worked with a guy who scored 1600 on the SAT twice. We asked him why he took it twice if he scored 1600 the first time. He said, "to show everybody it wasn't a fluke".

I was top ten in my class and got a scholarship to every school I applied to but I never thought about advertising it. I only applied to about 5 schools though. I guess it’s a racial thing. I hope all these kids make it big though.
We had 2 kids in my class go to Brown and Yale. One got a 34 and the other a 35. Southern white kids who didn’t play sports. Had another go to Princeton for football. This was 20 years ago though.

No it isn't.

And then you give an example of how it isn't.

Some schools offer more. My GF has been offered insane things to get her to come to other schools after she had multiple things published and won some awards at conventions. So NC State likely offered the best package, and may have a strong program for his particular degree.
