Inconsequential pet peeve English speaking reporters pronouncing their name with accent

Over recent years I’ve been hearing it more and more on the MSM networks where reporters will deliver their full story/report in English without any accent and then at the end when they are signing off they go out of their way to pronounce their name in the most heavy accent as possible. I’ve mostly seen this with Hispanic speaking reporters. It’s just silly to me that they try so hard

Dude, it’s their fricking name. Their “trying hard” is sanding the accent off of their normal speech. Asking them to, for them, mispronounce their name just to make you feel better is quite the fricking thing

So you are mad that people pronounce their names the way they have always said it.
But changed their dialect for news to blend in with the USA.
You guys get mad over nothing.

I used to get a kick out of listening to foreign news reports in Spanish, French, German, or Russian. The reporters' accents match the language they speak perfectly until the name of a US city or sports team gets mentioned, and then the words are most usually pronounced with a perfect mid-west American accent before going immediately back to their native language and accent.

Or the 103.3 traffic girl that can’t say plaquemine or Evangeline correctly

Reminds me of the Hispanic reporter from Married with Children...

How do you feel about people who speak English without an accent but pronounce their Cajun French names with a French pronunciation?

This might be the dumbest thread I’ve read all week.
And I’ve read through half the Poli board

This with one exception. I have some distant relatives that put the French inflection on our last name I think they are pretentious figs. Also, the way those pussies that were too weak to walk all the way to Louisiana pronouncing names like Leblanc.

You mean like Gerry Rivera?

Speaking English then slipping into Spanish for “proper” pronunciation is annoying. Wouldn’t the English pronunciation be proper in English?

I only consider it pretentious if someone “goes back” to a previous pronunciation. I’m never going to fault someone for pronouncing their name the way their mamma pronounced their name.
