Up bringing is big, parents not active in their lives, the environment they surround them selves with is also big. One more reason no fear of God anymore

A generation raised on entertainment and an inability to process emotion and reality.

The internet.

I love the internet but it provides voices to those previously voiceless. Not only that, but it provides them with echo chambers to falsely confirm their lunacies. That's the tinder that starts the flame, then you toss in diesel when you consider our political climate, access to weaponry, and media coverage. It's all a ripe environment for crazies to get their message out, have their beliefs confirmed, and then acted out upon with great media coverage.

Where have you been, such a thing doesn’t exist anymore. Be it from the state or the tech we use each day, we have zero privacy anymore. We don’t respect it at all unfortunately.

Maybe if we focused more on how we treat people in the right here and now instead of carving out our future in fantasy heaven we wouldn't have folks running around feeling like no one gives a shite about them. Just an idea.

This will get downvoted to hell and back, but I think a lot of it is also related to the capitalistic mantra of "time is money" and the extremes that people have to resort to to make it these days. Money is less valuable than ever. Used to be, there was plenty of time to spend with your children. That's not the case in an awful lot of situations these days. Both parents are working full-time and flat-out exhausted from just being able to make ends meet. And work is also a 7 days a week, 365 days a year deal now as well. I think all of that has a role as well. People are just fricking tired.

This should get downvoted to hell and back considering the vast majority of mass shooters are single
Young men.

What a weird post. Seems like total projection.

Ritalin - and a bunch of parents that put their teenage sons on meds unnecessarily. Schools and administrators that prompted are enablers too. No one is saying it but many of these kids have been found to have been on Psychotropic prescribed drugs during their teen years. Just my theory but I think it has impaired their ability to think in anything further than dualities.

quote:

Psychotropic medication: Any medication capable of affecting the mind, emotions, and behavior. Some medications such as lithium, which may be used to treat depression, are psychotropic. Also called a psychodynamic medication.

My grandfather: ran/owned a cotton farm, worked nights as a furniture plant manager; had 7 kids living under his roof. This is after a 4 year tour in SouthEast Asia as an Army Ranger during WWII.

My Dad: Worked 50+ hours a week as a ship building supervisor, then landed a gig as Chemical Plant Maintenance Manager still working 50+ hours a week with a 2 hour commute everyday. As a side hustle fixed lawn mowers, weed eaters, and edgers, so he could spoil me and my sibling when he could. Also managed the 500+ acres of timber in his family name on the weekends.

Me: Work 40-45 hours a week, often from home....at a desk in an air conditioner office. 20 minute commute. Free filtered water/ice, coffee, and covered parking.

Good point tho. I work waaaay harder than the generations before me .

Isolated, unhappy young men going to message boards like 8 chan to share hateful ideologies. They don't have any other life experiences to temper their hate because they are isolated

Genuine question. Are we having more than in the past or are we paying more attention now?

I think we have a mental health problem now. I think this generation grew up without knowing how to socialize properly. They are easily able to find others with their ideological bents and feed off of each other. When they want to socialize, they look online instead of across the room. That can be dangerous if not done properly.

I think there needs to be strict “phones down” time with families more. Maybe talk over dinner. Go for a ride in the car. Go to a baseball game. Just don’t sit there at let your kids iPad all day.

More mass public shootings? More.

Throw in overmedication instead of learning how to properly deal with issues.

TD should be the last place to suggest institutionalizing people. It takes money to pay for that, we run a massive deficit already and people here would gladly lower taxes again if they could. There is no money for healthcare, just like there won’t be changes to gun laws. It’s not happening so everyone just needs to shut up about it and live with the results. It’s sad, but I can only conclude it’s what we want our society to be.
