In the 80s and 90s Al Bundy and Homer Simpson were considered fat and poor

Both only had only a high school education, stay at home wove, two kids, and considered relatively dumb.
Will a life like this ever be possible again in the U.S.?

Maybe I missed it, but it wasn’t considered outlandish Al could afford a nice suburban home as a mallworker with a stay at home wife
That would be laugh out loud ridiculous now

TV dad of the 50's vs the 80's
The family looked up to the dad for knowledge and leadership
IMO, this was the start of the turn against the American white male.
TV started making the dad look like a bumbling idiot instead of the leader of the household.

It wasn't heavily considered at all. We used to have shows to just enjoy them and not have to overanalyze.

Homer, sure. Al? Not so much.

Uh, Al wasn't fat. He could stick his hand down his pants

I’m not white but Nixon said that long before about All in the family

It was a reflection of the times you don’t see shows today of a blue collar guy with no trade or education with a nice home and stay at home wife

No because the climate change cult wants you dead and/or poor.

As à nuclear plant operator IRL Homer probably made six figures.

And on Friends people were able to own a huge midtown Manhattan loft on a waitress salary
It's TV

Fred Sanford lived in a fricking junk yard and he had a two story house. It was probably just an easier layout for the set/filming.

Wasn’t Homer a nuclear power plant operator? Those guys make a decent living.
