You keep lobbing insults and accusations, which I respond to.

But no barbs in this post. So we can just move on now? Deal?

That’s who I voted for. I feel like if someone is on the ballot in all fifty states they should be in every debate as well.

Agree entirely. Though with all the talk of the debate commission, etc, I’m genuinely curious to see whether we have debates this next cycle at all (beyond the single party primary debates).

$1B could be spent on more necessities but there’s at least some public good that comes from this.

People said that about the Eiffel Tower too

Honestly, if it wasn't iconic and it wasn't expected to be there and you started strolling through the Champs de Mars park toward the river almost everyone would say "why the hell did they build that ugly thing there?". It is wholly incongruous.

I think a 1776 foot tall flagpole with a 50,000 square foot flag is kinda tacky cool, the sort of thing I would enjoy driving by on the interstate like giant crosses, Sam Houston, Cadillac Ranch, and the Peachoid but it seems rather tacky for a monument to fallen soldiers. Then again the idea of a theme park as a tribute to those soldiers seems rather tacky as well.

The billion dollar price tag seems untenable given the lack of central location and Maine is not on the way to or from anywhere in the US.

Yup. Though somehow still not as bad as the Tour Montparnasse

I'm not at all an expert in the history, but my understanding is that it received significant pushback when proposed, but it was ultimately approved as a first step in the "modernization" of Paris about fifty years ago. Once it was up, everyone hated the frick out of it, and regulations have since been passed to make sure it never happens again. To this day, Parisians still hate it, and the joke in Paris is that the best view in Paris is at the top of the Tour Montparnasse, as it's the only place in the city you can't see the awful fricking thing
