Unless the Soviets did something to provoke the US, there would have been zero political or social will to turn on the Soviets in 1945. Heck, part of the rationale of dropping the A Bomb was to avoid a long drawn out battle over the Japanese home islands.

Our civilian gun population had a lot to do with why no one ever seriously considered trying to invade. When assessing the possibility for Japan, Yamamoto supposedly said that it'll never work because "There will be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

Imagine if modern media was around for WW I and WW II?

Most of them would have been cheering for the Japs on 12/7/1941.

More like they would have revealed the Manhattan Project in an effort to click bait

Imagine trying to build a city of about 75K during WW II and the supporting industrial structures today without some idiot putting it on FaceBook!

This happened in well kept secrecy when they built Oak Ridge.

You think they could not invade the America's (North & South) by say 1950? Between the two of them they would control 3 of the 4 spheres of oil on the Earth.

They'd have had to come north from Mexico or south from Canada, because they'd have never been able to even consider amphibious landings on our shores. Considering natural obstacles (such as the Great Lakes, Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and Mohave Desert), our leadership would have probably been able to pretty accurately guess where they would invade and set up defenses accordingly.

Another thing to consider is that we were still expecting to need Soviet help with Japan. Hardly anyone knew about the bomb's existence, and those who did didn't know how well it would work, if at all.

The Red Army liberated a lot of American POW's in Poland. Sure glad they did.

Yeah we should have just let the world end and not become a super power

LOL. The world would not have ended. And your “victory “ was a world where books are being rewritten to remove “offensive “ language, and grown men dressed as women demand an audience of children.

If my grandfather could see the world that resulted from his blood and sweat , I’m convinced he’d ask why we went to fight at all. I bet a lot of other vets asked the same question as they watched what became of the world that they fought so hard for.

You act like that would have been easy. The Red Army was a force to be reckoned with and was willing to sustain unlimited casualties.

You act like we did not just bomb two cities with Atom bombs, a technology they did not possess, they would have had no choice other than bending the knee.

Not to mention the US had perfected the art of combined arms, whereas the Russians were still trying to learn it.

Combined with cutting off their ammo, gasoline and trucks, I wouldn’t bet against us.
