I'm so glad they decided to put a camera on the Juno probe after all. This is amazing footage. Make sure to put it on 1080p on full screen.

Juno
Juno is a NASA space probe orbiting the planet Jupiter. It was built by Lockheed Martin and is operated by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on August 5, 2011 (UTC), as part of the New Frontiers program,[6] and entered a polar orbit of Jupiter on July 5, 2016 (UTC),[4][7] to begin a scientific investigation of the planet.[8] After completing its mission, Juno will be intentionally deorbited into Jupiter's atmosphere.[8]
Juno's mission is to measure Jupiter's composition, gravity field, magnetic field, and polar magnetosphere. It will also search for clues about how the planet formed, including whether it has a rocky core, the amount of water present within the deep atmosphere, mass distribution, and its deep winds, which can reach speeds of 618 kilometers per hour (384 mph).[9]
Juno is the second spacecraft to orbit Jupiter, after the nuclear powered Galileo orbiter, which orbited from 1995 to 2003.[8] Unlike all earlier spacecraft to the outer planets,[8] Juno is powered only by solar arrays, commonly used by satellites orbiting Earth and working in the inner Solar System, whereas radioisotope thermoelectric generators are commonly used for missions to the outer Solar System and beyond. For Juno, however, the three largest solar array wings ever deployed on a planetary probe play an integral role in stabilizing the spacecraft as well as generating power.

The foreboding music makes me assume it's fake
Posted on 6/2/17 at 1:55 pm to DavidTheGnome
That was legitimately awesome.

fricking gorgeous. But what's up with the creepy audio they added?
Posted on 6/2/17 at 1:57 pm to gorillacoco
There is an independent R&D company in SA, TX that has a lot to do with these missions...

That's bad arse. Amazing where high def cameras have taken us.

That's what Jupiter sounds like. No wonder you can't make it on Jeopardy.

The music made me nauseous and the lines of black dots on the planet reveal that it is clearly fake.

That's so fake. Fish eye lens and CGI. Good job NASA everyone knows Jupiter is flat, nor spherical.

Very cool, not sure what the deal was with the "music" or whatever that was

That's the UFO they are tracking brah.

What are the dots that appear around 0:45 in? Is it a moon being imaged over and over as the craft follows the moons orbit?

Is that gas/clouds, or rock formations? The swirling patterns indicated gas more than solid matter to me.

I had it on mute when watching (at work), it says it's the 2001 soundtrack.

It could be a moon photographed and the repeating nature a result of the stitching to make the video, I'm not really sure.

Agree - don't recall if it's from the first or second monolith scene, but it's definitely from 2001.

A lot of NASA photos have a grid of black or white dots or crosshairs. I'm pretty sure the camera on the probe is taking still photos, not video.
They then mapped the flat images to a sphere to recreate a flyby video.
The music is from 2001: A Space Odyssey, specifically the scene when Discovery One passes Jupiter and the monolith.

It's clouds.....hence why Jupiter is a "gas giant."
