In a world where Internet TV exists, how is DirecTV still in business?

I'm sitting at a hotel bar watching this on TV because it's raining outside:

How do those of you with this shitty service handle these rough times?

I don't think DirecTV will even install you a satellite unless you don't have high speed Internet.

Dish will switch to streaming when the signal is interrupted

I'd start with the Tito's.

There are some places that still depend on it. Like hotels who may have an entire room full of boxes and encoders to create their own local cable network to feed channels to hotel rooms and restaurants. If everything needed to come from the individual channel server or host there would not be enough data throughput.

Until very recently, satellite was our only option. Then TMobile home internet became available. Ditched DirecTV immediately. It sucked.

Life in the country.

In college in late 90’s… had the cheater code card that I paid the dude at the audio/video shop for 150$. We had every station known to man including all the porn channels. Lasted about 2 years before Directv found out how to zap it. It was awesome

Same issue but we went to StarLink and use our streaming services.

I’m so old I remember when I bought my first house nearly 20 years ago, and the first thing I did was hook up DirecTV. Back then they had world class customer service.

In business because large parts of the county don't have high speed internet and starlink is fairly expensive (and internet isn't important to some elderly people). As to having DTV were high speed internet is available, I haven't a clue.

I moved out in the hicks where there is no internet to build my compound.

Took a little getting accustomed to, but I'm not missing it and my Direct TV goes out alot less than any Spectrum/YouTube TV, ect because I don't rely on internet.

Been here a year and Direct TV has been down less than an hour. Only a massive storm kicks me down and only last for a few minutes.

Then, AT&T bought them out and customer service turned into a steaming pile of dog shite.

I started streaming YouTube tv and ditched dtv. From 200+ a month to 81 dollars and I don’t have to up my subscription every month if I’m not using it. I watch YouTube which doesn’t cost anything and pick things I want to watch. I’ll pick YouTube tv back up when football starts.

They are mostly streaming now. I have their streaming service and I like it.

Mainly because I can put it on any device and my kids can put it on to their smart TVs and use it in college, all with one subscription.

But instead of steaming football games on the ESPN app I can just watch my TV on my phone when I’m not at home.

My old man had one of these bad boys back in the early 90’s.

There was the Playboy Channel, then the trashier Spice Channel.
