Actually, I think the OP said it was a pilot for a reality TV show, which makes it really, really difficult assuming the cameramen and crew following you would simply dial 911 on their smart phone and have you busted within 10 minutes.

Blair witch style. Problem solved.

Well, I can survive 5 days with just water, barring extreme temperatures.

I know of a very small cave that I can get to the back of after about 30 min to an hour. I could walk there and carry water and a couple of flashlights in a backpack. There are parts of the cave where I can barely get through, so fat, lazy, and claustrophobic people could never possible get in there.

does anyone else know about this cave? Or know you know about it? Every person is looking for you. Your parents, your wife, every stranger. Everyone in the world is actively looking for only you in the next five hours.
Any human that knows you will use what they know to find you.

It was Q/A on reddit on Saturday. I think it could make for a pretty cool reality show. Especially if viewers the social media where allowed to interact in some fashion.

The whole public punishment idea was from a British TV series on netflix called Black Mirror.

Ok, I have a friend who has a plane. It sits at a rural airport where only 3-4 a week fly out of. If I stole his plane and flew it to another rural airport in West Tx then ditch the plane there and live off the land for 5 days, that could work. Granted, id have to survive the takeoff and landing in a plane by myself when I dont know how to.

This is the type scenario that I see having the best chance.

If you can make it to your landing site within an hour greatly increases your chances.

A low flying aircraft probably attracts a decent amount of attention in this hypothetical situation, but maybe no one puts 1 and 1 together.

then it is not a "what would you do"- game or a conquest anymore. so the whole thread is moot. no one could survive this unless you're in a movie.

First off this only works if I win a Billion dollars, that's the only way I could afford all of the reconstruction:
Remove any identification, set yourself on fire, live out the next five days and beyond in a medically induced coma. You could pretend to be unconscious if in fact you weren't already to avoid being asked any questions. Your appearance would be so altered by the fire that there is no way anyone could recognize you.

That is the glaring fact people refuse to admit.

Given 48 hours advance notice I think the chances are immensely greater.

So you think someone that's never flown a plan before could master the technique of hot wiring an aircraft, as well as ensuring the tanks are filled, then mastering taking off, flying, and landing, plus the time needed before to pack supplies, then travel to this rural airport.

All without being noticed?

In one hour?

I would go to a house of someone without family (I know a bunch of people in town here in Georgia who are just old people in the middle of nowhere. Tie them up and just use their house for five days.

I would get there prior to the one hour being over part.

Do you think you'd be able to operate a small plane?

Also, I'd be afraid FAA catching on.

I said best chance. I didn't say it had much, if any, chance.

Id say those are better chances than the idea of living in a tolerant city dressed as a Muslim woman or living in the Atchafalaya swamps.

Me? Hell no. I have stated from the beginning I think it has no chance of happening.

So many thing discussed here, the big one is what is at stake? If its life or death, id rather die in a plane crash trying to get away than be caught. If its 1 billion dollars if I can not be found, why not offer half of it to the guy flying the plane?

If you could hide on a train that continues to take you out of town after the one hour is up, most people wouldn't even be looking in the right area. The biggest threat would be government US government agencies.

Wouldn't one of the first things a government agency do is look at routes for trains and busses? Perhaps you could jump off in some wooded area after a while, but continuously riding it would be an easy way to be caught.

I suspect whoever starts organizing the search would set up about a 100 mi radius search area of your last known location.

You literally can't go anywhere that you have ever gone before. You can't go somewhere obvious like a nearby island or abandoned whare house.

It almost seems like a hidden in plain sight strategy could be the best option. Some where you could get to quickly.

My office is a few blocks from the police station. Perhaps sneak over on foot, and climb onto the roof. Access a vent shaft to use as shelter.

What about dressing as a Muslim woman to hijack a submarine, then driving that into the swamps?
