Almost every single day she was waiting for me to get home. Had 15 good years and sadly today was her last day. This is the first time I put a dog down and it is brutal. But it was time.

RIP Slai

Sorry for the loss. Unfortunately I know exactly what you're going through.

Had to put down our last baby this week too on Monday. 15 as well and as loyal as yours. We still miss him really bad and are grieving hard.

Nothing can prepare you. No matter how many times you've been through it or how long ahead of time you know it's coming. In our case, we had both of our dogs (had to put the other down in 2016) before we even had kids. It's like saying goodbye to an entire chapter of life. It hurts.

I am so very sorry for your loss
Letting your best friend go is one of the most selfless things we can do
I know my words don’t mean much now but it will get better, not tomorrow or next week or even next month but it will get better
After some time you will find that you smile & laugh when talking about her rather than tearing up

Godspeed, Slai, we shall see you on the other side.

God summoned the beast from the field and He said
"Behold, man is created in my image. Therefore adore him.
You shall protect him in the wilderness,
shepherd his flocks, watch over his children,
accompany him wherever he may go...
even into civilization.
You shall be his companion, his ally, his slave."

"To do these things," God said, "I endow you with the
instincts uncommon to other beasts:
Faithfulness, Devotion and Understanding
surpassing those of man himself.
Lest it impair your courage,
you shall never foresee your death.
Lest it impair your loyalty,
you shall be blind to the faults of man.
Lest it impair your understanding,
you are denied the power of words.
Speak to your master only with your mind
and through your honest eyes."

"Walk by his side; sleep in his doorway;
ward off his enemies; carry his burden;
share his afflictions; love and comfort him.
And in return for this,
Man will fulfill your needs and wants...
which shall be only food, shelter and affection."

"So be silent and be a friend to man.
Guide him through the perils along the way
to this land I have promised him.
This shall be your destiny and your immortality."

So spoke the Lord.
And the dog heard, and was content.

It’s terrible. We lost both of ours within 6 weeks of each other last fall- the 2nd spent his last weekend at the vet because I had to have an emergency appendectomy the same day he had a seizure. It makes for a very quiet house. We waited about 6 weeks and got our 2 new ones, and for us it was therapeutic, but it’s not the same for everyone. Sorry for your loss.

I've only had to do it twice and was very difficult each time. For the 1st, we brought it to the vet and our dog was very nervous in an unfamiliar setting.

For the 2nd (which was just a couple of weeks ago), we did the in-home process and well worth the extra $100 or so. He was relaxed, initially via a sedative and sleeping peacefully (snoring loudly) when the real stuff was administered.

We never have enough time with our pets no matter how long we have them. She was a beautiful pup, and she was lucky to be your sidekick. Very sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. Sweet looking girl.

And what kind of a low-life maggot would downvote a post like this?

She was a good girl. And just think, she loved you as much as you loved her. That’s a true blessing.

Rest easy Slai.

Sorry for your loss but those dogs are fricking psychopaths.

A co worker has one and that thing sheds worse than any dog Ive ever seen and wants to lick everything in sight to death.

Heaven forbid you try to sit on the couch and watch TV. Oh no, you have to get licked eleventy billion times and take a shower after.
