Pumping non stop at maximum capacity, the city pumps would take 99 hours to pump out 50 inches of rain.
I know the flooding in Katrina was a different animal, but pumping water out is going tk take a long time, relatively speaking.

imagine the current Texas situation and next week Irma hitting NOLA. Then what if a EMP attack or a dirty bomb going off on the east coast or LA. Talk about a big mess. The US would be so tied up with problems

That is at full pumping capacity. We already know that New Orleans does not currently have full pumping capacity. That is also assuming that the pumps that are working could maintain 99 hours of 100% operation. That is not realistic.
In this hypothetical you are looking out HUGE amounts of casualties and best case scenario probably 1.5 weeks of standing water. That water would probably do some serious damage to the back side of the levees which in turn could cause failures and more flooding / damages.
Wow, after thinking about this hypothetical, I vote to evacuate the city, pull out all things of value, turn off the 2-3 still working pumps, blow the levees, and create us a new world renown fishing destination!!!!

Yep. The water stayed up in the city for 12 days after Katrina and we know how that turned out.

First off... only a couple of small isolated spots got 50 inches. Most of Houston got 30-35 inches. That's still a whole bunch of rain... but let's play with facts here.
The devastating flooding in Katrina occured because of storm surge which pressured levees. Storm surge would not be an issue in this event.
My guess is you would have widespread flooding in the 2 foot range. Relatively low spots would have more, relatively high spots would have less.
So more people would flood than did during Katrina, but the flooding would not be as deep.
Also... a whole lot of people here have flood insurance these days.

Pumping doesn't work like this, but let's do some math anyway.
NOLA is 170 Sq miles of land.
50 inches of rain equates to 20 billion cubic feet of water.
Using the SWB pump capacity on their website, they are currently at 94%, 47,380 cfs.
If all that water just appeared on New Orleans, and that cfs acted like one pump in a bowl, it would take 116 hours to drain.
It gets a lot more complicated to actually model it using the canals, drains, and actual pumps. Then of course is the power issue....

Pumps working and levees hold? No flooding at all. If either one fails, we have seen what happens. Katrina 2.0.

Serious maybe stupid question. What would 50 in of rain in 2 days over the Mississippi River in in BR or north of BR do for flooding..would the MS in BR ever flood?

The Mississippi gets to flood stage around here frequently. The big flood events are driven by rainfall and snowmelt way upstream. Rainfall this far south wouldn't do much to the Mississippi because nothing drains into the Mississippi. Like you saw last summer, our big rains flooded the Amite, Tangi, Comite, ect. The Mississippi barely saw a blip of water level rise.

i gotcha..good point..Amite/ Comite...50 in from those in a few days would really be the threat to BR
