I dont know how to compare flooding from broken levees in New Orleans from Katrina but can you imagine if that 50 inch rain would have hit New Orleans? Its already down in Houston this morning. New Orleans can and should kiss its lucky stars.

Why do we have to make horrible natural disasters a dick measuring contest?

One city drains because gravity and in the other you have to pump it out because gravity wants to keep it there.

The top of Robert E. Lee's column might be the only dry spot in town.

It doesn't matter what city you choose 50" and it's flooded.

Imagine if the New Orleans mayor hadn't removed the statues yet and the Harvey directed its path towards New Orleans. The entire city is underwater, yet one thing resiliently sticks out from the flooded, underwater city...

Of course, but New Orleans is one of the few that would stay that way.

This was just an interesting fact I saw on the news:

The amount of water dumped by Harvey would have covered the entire city of New Orleans in 128 feet of water.

Some other cool tidbits:

That amount of water is the equivalent of 9 days of Mississippi River flow.

It's the equivalent of 2 weeks of Niagra Falls flow.

It would cover the entire United States with 0.17 inches of water.

It stayed that way so long for Katrina for a few reasons number one because there were holes in the levee system so even if the pumps wrent flooded, pumping the water out would be useless because the water would come back in. Number two the all the pump stations were flooded so they couldn't pump out anyway. I'm not saying The city wouldn't flood but with the pumps working in the levees sealed up The water wouldn't stay for as long as you're saying.

That has to be total rain fall over the entire event all over.

Could you imagine if 52" of rain fell over New Orleans in a 5 day period with no pumps working?? We'd be part of Lake Ponchartrain, the Mississippi River, and the GOM.
