but the perception of a boring cookie cutter place isn't something so many people have just created out of a vacuum. Stereotypes come from somewhere, you have to agree.
i think the issue is how people have warped this into such a negative concept
i'm not a national expert on the pulse of America, but i do know people from all over and nobody has nearly the negative perception of Houston like Nola people. what makes it worse is the only real thing they say is related to some esoteric concept (like "soul" or "culture") without really reflecting on the actual soul or culture of Nola
that's why people from more developed cities look at Nola and see it as it appears to the developed world: a 3rd world country

While there's something aesthetically rather bleh about Houston in general, I do find that its lax zoning restrictions make it an interesting and even somewhat unique modern city.

Bruh, did SS bang your girl in the Bathroom of Razzoo's during Mardi Gras? You sho is a bitter little fella
I don't speak trash....can you translate?
I say good sir, did SS copulate with your concubine within the loo of Razzoo's during Mardi Gras? You seem to be a rancorous midget.
Not a direct translation but close enough.

It's comical that someone from New Orleans would shite in Houston. I can't stand Houston. It's too big for my taste. The sterile strip mall feel isn't for me. With that said, there's absolutely no reason New Orleans should be compared to the 4th largest city in the country. If the best you can do is say that Houston lacks culture and charm, than the situation in LA must be worse than it leads on.

Every major city is diverse, that's not saying much.
Houston has BBQ , a rodeo, and Mexicans. None of that is exclusive to Houston .
What's hilarious is that they're pitch for tourism includes a commercial with "Nola" feel to it. People dancing in the street behind a band in downtown Houston . I've never seen that before.
There's good food here, but I don't thinks it's better than NOLA's cuisine.

But what if they're driving through and really need to poop? Are they just supposed to wait until the woodlands?

The bars alone are like a more corporate version of shitty tigerland bars
Definitely a salient observation if you're in midtown, different story elsewhere the past 3-5 years. Lots of bars have sprung up in the last few years, some with your beer garden layout and craft beers. Still mostly unoriginal and soulless, but it's not corporate tigerland like lolWoodrow's.

i mean i do agree. Houston is as postmodern as you get in terms of architecture. square boxes everywhere, but at some point in life i realized only the smallest portion of my life actually involves viewing (more less appreciating) the areas that surround me, especially if it's something i see EVERY day

New Orleans was an economic powerhouse before the oil bust and cultural leadership. This notion that the economy has always been dependent on tourism is false.
If Louisiana had maintained the oil money that it had back in the 20th century and if we wouldn't have been the most absurdly corrupt state in the country, you could argue that New Orleans would be a dramatically different city today in terms of culture.

Right. The 4th largest city in the US has a rodeo, BBQ and Mexicans. Brilliant stuff.

14 of the 50 most populous cities have Rep mayors. SD and Miami are the big ones. The entire list shows that, if a city is going to have a large minority population, they need to be Hispanic for a republican to have any chance.
