I’m now a beard man. I had no idea they had whole brands built around beard maintenance

I am absolutely lost on this. 35. Always been a stubble man. Ive had it with perpetual ingrown hairs. My hair is thick and grows at odd angles it seems. I’ve tried every shave technique known. I still get them.

So I’ve turned to the beard. First off, this thing is very itchy. Only might be a third of an inch. Secondly, maintaining this thing and cleaning it up is a beast. I shave up the neckline a bit. Not a big fan of hair on the throat.

What basic products do you use? Any of this oil and cream stuff or is it just marketing jibber jabber. Seems like I could buy an aloe Vera leaf or cocoa butter to just accomplish the same thing.

Any beard info is welcome for a beginner in beards.

I don’t use any products. I bought an amazing Phillips electric razor with like 20 different shears on it for $50 at Walmart and I just trim it down once a week so it doesn’t get out of control.

Keep the neckline and cheekbones clean and trim all around with a #3 every month or so.

Haven’t really fooled around with any of the balms and creams and whatnot.

I shave just below the jawline because I hate an itchy neck

I wash it when I take a shower and use timber beard kit for maintenance. Usually cut the little hairs around my mouth as I'm not eating them and use a straight edge razor to shave my cheeks

I have thick hair and go back and forth between stubble and full beard.

It’s itchy as frick in the transition period. Once it gets a little longer it’s better.

Best I’ve found is cremo beard conditioner and beard cream from target.

Best thing to do is scrub the frick out of it with hot water and soap twice a day. Then put the cream in it and comb it. Will be very soft and comfy for the day

Also smart move, keep the edges tight, the neckline and such that helps with the comfort believe it or not.

You don't need beard maintenance products except a trimmer. The other stuff is only good at depleting disposable income.

I have been using Beardbrand products out of Austin, TX. Try the styling balm, conditioner, moustache wax and salt spray. All good depending on your beard.

Beardbrand

I did the trimmer thing for a couple of years but decided this past December to ask my barber about growing it longer. He trimmed it and gave me some tips about styling. COVID happened and I grew it pretty long. Much better with my fat head.

I’m sure all the soy in you keeps your beard naturally soft and oiled.

Grew a beard for 15 months. Only product you REALLY need is beard oil. Will definitely help with the itching, but also keep the beard hair supple and not greasy. Dab a drop or two onto each finger tip and rub into your skin starting on jaw line then working down into neck/throat, then up into cheeks. My itchiness was worse on my neck/throat, so I personally concentrated on that area.

Beard oil is kind of a misnomer since it really is made to be absorbed into your skin and not the actual beard hair at all.

for the every day beard you don't but if you grow it out you need conditioner. I'm getting 6" cut off mine tomorrow.

Use a beard brush when you first start growing it out to get the stubble all growing in the right direction.

I have to use beard oil or I will start itching after a few days. When your beard hair gets longer it starts pulling out more of the natural oil your follicle creates which causes your skin to get dry and itchy.

I only wash mine like once a week. Beard oil seems to help food wipe off easier too.

Hah. Not sure how long it's take for Billy Gibbon's length, but I'd guess 3 years or so. Could grab mine with a fist and have maybe an inch or so sticking out the bottom after 15 months.

I just use a regular skin lotion/moisturizer.
Braun electric razor/trimmer.
