I live in BR but I happen to care about the city. All you do is bitch.

Live in Jefferson parish, stay on well lit streets if you have to go to NOLA at night be aware of your surroundings - just like you would with any large city

My nephew went to Tulane Med school and married a northern girl who also went there. As a result, I have met a lot of former med students from other places who went to school in NOLA and THEY FRIGGIN LOVED IT!
To a person, they treasured the experience, and you will too.
You don’t need concealed carry unless you plan to hang out in dicey areas past midnight. Even then, the odds of having a problem are a thousand to one.
Relax and enjoy yourself.
BTW, my nephew and his wife live elsewhere, but they have a small house in Riverbend and they enjoy weekends there.

I have a SO (no pics) and she gave a big fat no to the dorms. We have found some affordable places that look like they're in good areas, but I was just curious as to whether it was worth to commute from JP

You can thank us later for taking more than our fair share.

Congratulations on medical school. I don't know you and I'm proud of you.
Just don't go out in New Orleans alone after dark. Always go in a group. If your car is nice, sell it and get something shitty.
Obviously, you should be packing. Remember, it's better to ask forgiveness than permission.
Living. I might be going against the grain, but I'd try to find a place close to school with a roommate in your class.

I probably wouldn't, either. I remember my first year living in a big city. Great food, parties, good looking women, it was heaven for a 22yo with a paycheck.
But you get to a point that it doesn't make sense, and then you move on.

There are many safe areas in Orleans parish.
Difference in NOLA safe areas is that there are still random carjackings in lakeview and bullshite like that. That doesn’t fly in most actual safe areas around the country.

I saw two people dying on the street during a weekend trip to Nola.. And all this time I thought you guys were making shite up/exaggerating. Reminded me of a third world country. How did it get to this?
