I’m getting old rant - headphones

Why does everybody have to wear headphones these days in work environments? I’m talking about people working at the front desk of a company or office. It just seems pretty unprofessional when I walk in for an appointment in an office and the kid behind the desk has to mute, turn off, or take off gigantic headphones.
And the ear buds aren’t much better. I’ve had instances in the past where I’ve tried to talk to someone in another office and I could literally hear the music blasting through her earbuds (of which one was still in her ear). Totally unprofessional and pretty fricking rude on top of that. She was a terrible employee too, which tracks I guess.
Are people that attached to or addicted to listening to music these days that they can’t function without it?
And I’m not talking about someone in their own office or cubicle…more in general for outward facing employees. Although I’ve noticed it more and more at places like the grocery store as well. Is it a comfort thing? And anti-social thing? An autism thing?

Maybe they're just all tired of hearing you bitch about everything.

I also like faces in phones and they never to look up to help you. (Example- doctor's office front desk/nurses station in hospital). When did this become ok?
Get off my lawn! Old lady screams at clouds!

It's not OK, but management is afraid of employees these days.
No one speaks up any longer.

A kid wearing head phones in a family gathering at a restaurant.
"Meh, maybe he's autistic and the music keeps him calm."
An attractive female wearing headphones while she's running alone.
"Stupid broad, you're gonna get mugged or something worse!"

I have an (1) AirPod in when at my desk listening to podcast while I'm doing my daily work. I answer calls on them as well. When people walk in most don't even realize I have one in, simple pinch the stem if I feel I even need to mute. Don't see an issue.

The introvert’s paradise! Now.
Can live life care free without ever looking someone in eyes or hardly speaking with own voice to someone’s ears.
I apologize to all introverts. My engagement style is your worst nightmare. To the fella I saw on hiking trail in TX hill country last week, I am sorry for doing rain dance to make you laugh, when it started to pour.
Send me your therapy bill.

The worst is when you think someone is talking to you, and then you respond with a polite, “I’m sorry what was that ma’am/sir?” And then they just point to their ears to signal that they’re talking on the phone with someone and weren’t talking to you lol.

I guess I have never seen what you are saying. Went to the vet recently, no one wearing headphones, not even the young girl at the counter. I go to the grocery store; no cashier is wearing headphones. In fact, they stand by line opening to their register welcoming you.
I use headphones every day, but I'm not a receptionist or a cashier at a grocery store.

Well, we do have to live in an extroverted world, and your small talk annoys the frick out of me. I can't go anywhere and have peace. You mother frickers come up to me all the time talking about shite that doesn't matter.

I am..I can't stand silence. Thankfully I have a private office so it doesnt affect anyone, but I do have to pause my music to take teams calls or when someone knocks

I swear some of you are stupid.
