I wear my buds when grocery shopping every Monday morning.
I love listening to my podcasts and get so little alone time
Can’t speak for the younger generations, but I love semi-escaping now and then

I used to always wear ear buds when I worked in a cubicle bc listening to music or something else made my day way easier than hearing whatever background noise was happening in the office

It's probably more podcasts than music. And the air pods are just a more modern 1 ear 3 inch Bluetooth headset popular 10 years ago.

Newer airpods have transparency and adaptive modes so its easy to hear others. Also conversation awareness that stops the music when talking to people.
