No graph will show that one way or the other. I was only looking at North face totals and found the 800 number in a different article. That's why my assumption was made and it was a little off but not by much.

The point stands that the numbers being thrown around in this thread are just wrong. "Thousands per year" or that 650 summits is a typical season.

Here are some photos for you.

Dead people on Mt Everest

Good place to die "because it's there"

Sincere wishes for a good climb.

Edited to add:

You know, I looked up a list of folks who died. You will be in pretty good company. Some excellent climbers have died on Everest

Lots of then too

To them RIP

No bows to you until you make it or die trying.

Do we have anyone here that's done Everest or k2 or Annapurna or the others?

Is the picture above one of ours or random? I'd love to someone who has done it to pop on. I guess I could go to reddit.

Walt probably has done Everest.

I would bet my mother's life that Walt can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I have a friend who's done the seven summits. He's the same age as me and did most before he was 40. Has parkinsons now, hard to see.

For people talking about how easy it is with a Sherpa and oxygen, they should read Chris Cannizaro's story if they haven't already. One of the climbers he was with died.

Great. I just read an article that said Nepal has banned novice climbers and LSU fans.

Sorry about your friend. Pretty cool that he did 7.

Got two buds in DC that has done 4. Both Dutch.

I know a photographer for national geographic that made it up everest. That's about it.

There is apparently a Louisiana guy, a centenary grad, that summits Everest in 1999 and then on a different climb, JUMPED OFF the summit. Which is a much better way to get down I guess.

Why can't they help stranded climbers during the ascent/descent?

There's nothing u can do for a climber that stops. Almost all the deaths are people who just stop.

It's easy to stop. Once you do, that's it. It's a pure exhausted state. Just as if you were dying anywhere.

You can't help anyone down unless they are at least partly moving themselves. Also as poster above pointed out, you all run the risk of freezing and no 02 if you hang out very long.

This guy isn't trolling, he is just straight up lying. The cliche' comments, movie on Everest playing, January climb and has never climbed a mountain before. Kilimanjaro isn't a climb, it's a hike. My dad did it and hiked to Everest base camp. To summit is a whole different ball game.

I've done Mount Driskill twice. Once you get a good pace there's nothing to it.

OP was trolling. Wanted this to go on for months but he couldn't even get it out the gate. Maybe he'll create a new alter in a few weeks and start one about swimming across the gulf of mexico

Wait. So you're saying that I won't be getting the OP's stuff when he dies on the mountain
