If I could be transported/plopped where I choose in a decade of the 1700s? I'd thrive I think. And it would be in one several gold fields, from Australia to the western US or Alaska. Fun to think about and analyze. I've been fascinated with gold recovery for 35+ years.

quote:you’re in the era of the flintlock. Depending on when in the 1700s you’d be 25 to over 100 years before the firing pin type gun, and the cartridge. So you’d have some footwork to do before you could get there.
After I invented the revolver and the semiautomatic firearm, I'm pretty sure I'd be set.

Yes. People always need killing.

Sao might have the best idea yet. Memorize where in the US and Alaska that the big nuggets were found and beat everyone to them. Of course, I know nothing about the mining laws in the 1700s. Maybe buy the land first, idk.

Yeah, hard work, leadership, competency, and catching on quickly. How complicated could shite be back then?

I spent a summer chasing gold. It was both the most rewarding and frustrating thing you'll ever do.
All it takes is a little color in the pan and youre rejuvenated.

I would be a story teller / actor. My play the legend of Coach O (a rip off of Shrek) would make thousands. I’d use that to become friends with Ben Franklin and tell him about my theories on electricity and print making via the internet.

Harvard was founded in the 1600’s. I’m pretty sure I have enough knowledge of biology, chemistry, and math to be a professor there. I’m almost positive I could make rudimentary penicillin.

Way back, I read something about the Massie's... George and the GPAA. Perry and Tom were pretty young when he created the GPAA . Then Tom started his show Gold Fever on the Outdoor Network, which George and Perry helped pioneer. I believe Perry may still own or run the ON still today. I subscribe to umpteen gold YouTubers and love it. I've melted scrap for years here and there. The thing I really like doing in spare time is running a silver cell. Sreetips on YT is a great follow. Can grow pounds of silver with little to no effort.

I'm a lawyer....so, there's that.

Pretty sure they were still using English Doctrine in 1700. And they aint exactly going to be cool with a law license from 300 years in the future lol.
You probably better off teaching math.

We can all read and do basic math. Back in the old days only educated people had time to do that. Most people had to grow food and tend to live stock

Mercenary, pirate, or executioner

Our profession hasn't fundamentally changed, just a matter of learning local procedure and the limited amount of law for the time.
I imagine I could function fine as a furniture maker. While I am a hybrid woodworker there is nothing I can't do with hand tools alone from lumber to finish. Knowledge of the last 300 years of furniture design could be rather helpful.
I think the average well-educated person would have lots of useful information but turning it into a living might get one burned at the stake.

I can grow food, build wooden buildings, raise animals, catch fish and procreate.
I’m good.
