I thought about this and yes- I would be in panic mode for a while. The most difficult thing would be finding something to keep your brain working so I would keep my normal job just to keep my mind off things.

But I'd honestly wait a few weeks or a month before telling my SO. Make sure all my ducks are in a row.

Yep, I can only think of two people I'd even consider telling immediately (one friend/family member).

I just don't see the point in spreading this kind of news. But I have a feeling on Wednesday that whoever wins will run to social media before actually handling this situation right.

The absolute most afraid I'd be is turning in the actual ticket

I mean...I get that you are not married, but if/when you do, your wife would probably be on this list

or at least she should be, or you probably shouldn't have married her in the first place

If I won the powerball I would build a castle and then hire people to do medieval peasant stuff but I'd have all the modern amenities.

And I'd pay larp fat kids to attack my castle sometimes and I'd fight them off

I wouldn't tell anyone until I claimed the prize. If it has to be publicized, so be it. After that, I'm holding a conference with my family and we're talking about what needs to be done.

If any of my family has outstanding debts/medical expenses, I would pay them.

Life would be good.

I'm guessing the person/persons who win probably don't have a social media presence or the internet

Well, no, because I wouldn't be an idiot and broadcast the fact that I was suddenly a billionaire all over the place. There are VERY FEW people I'd tell - like my family, attorney, financial advisor, and CPA, who are all family friends anyway, and would be sworn to secrecy or lose their jobs. People who get on television airing their lottery winnings are not very bright. I wouldn't even allow my name to be made public, ever.

Is this not required?

I mean, it's not like the biggest jackpot in HISTORY is going to go anonymous. Even if you had an LLC, your name would go public. I'm not sure you have a choice.

Being able to remain anonymous sounds great for the winner, but what about the other hundreds of millions who paid? If every winner would be able to remain anonymous, how could we ever trust that the money was paid out to an actual winner?

If they won't let a third party accept the winnings for you, what about selling your winning ticket to a billionaire.

If it's 1.3 billion, you could get about half of that lump sum, then a little over half of that after taxes... So sell your ticket to mark Cuban for a couple million less, still have hundreds of millions, remain anonymous?

Edit: or maybe the income tax on what Cuban pays you would cut your winnings almost in half again? and he's not paying 40% more than he would receive for you to get only 1 or 2 million less than if you collect yourself.. Taxes...

You are incredibly naive to think this information would remain private for any substantial length of time. Just because you aren't on tv claiming your prize, doesn't mean people won't know. Especially people that know you now.

There are billionaire's in this country already you know. I went to coffee shop in a little town in Canada, north of Vancouver and the owner told me that Bill Gates goes in there pretty often. I was there with my dad for fly fishing trip. He says that he comes in and just orders breakfast and speaks to whoever is in there. He doesn't have 30 armed guards with him.

I would fear my safety from myself. I'd definitely need someone to keep me from going rock star.
