I believe it used to be, but a court decided, after a winner didn't want his identity known & took a state lottery commission to court, that the winner had the right to remain anonymous. I can't remember what state it was; it was several years ago, but I remember the commentators on one of the news stations saying that it set a precedent for the other states, so winners wouldn't be forced to reveal themselves pretty much anywhere if they pressed the issue.

I own enough guns to not be afraid.

I would cut this off at my immediate family, handful of cousins and some close friends. I have too many cousins I don't speak to that would come out of the woodwork.

I should have clarified. I have no family but my immediate family. It's kind of sad, really.

I mean, it's not like the biggest jackpot in HISTORY is going to go anonymous. Even if you had an LLC, your name would go public. I'm not sure you have a choice.
Exactly. The person trying to compare this to some Iraqi who won 2 million doesn't get it. This is the most publicized and anticipated drawing in US history. It will be literally impossible to hide who wins. The lottery commission knows IMMEDIATELY where the winning ticket(s) are sold. They've even pulled video surveillance before to try to identify winners.
If you win, you're going public no matter what you wish.
You'll be on every news channel within a week.

Once I picked up the prize money (this is under the idea of staying anonymous). I'd tell my parents and a handful of friends. I feel like you would actually be able to enjoy your winnings if you are out of the spotlight.

No. Having a billion $ is not a problem. There are plenty of qualified money people and lawyers who can hide you and your money from public knowledge.

I'm just talking about limiting your exposure. Yes I get that this lottery is the biggest in history. But you can take the necessary steps to stop some bad situations from coming your way.

I personally wouldn't mind seeing the butthurt in the faces of those who treated me like shite.

Yeah, you won't be living in the same shitty house you do now. You move around other rich people, in gated communities. You lose your cell phone. It would give me a reason to disconnect from the dumbass people in my life. If you think having a billion dollars is an issue, then your perception on reality is wack.

I wouldn't give a shite. Mainly because I'd try to be out of Louisiana within a month.

I wouldn't tell my wife immediately, but only because I would want to surprise her somehow like driving home with a badass new car for her or setting up a round the world trip before she knew.

I would be sooooo happy.
I don't even have a ticket. :/

Nobody is saying that you won't be known in the immediate aftermath of claiming your prize.
You will, however, be forgotten quickly and won't be some great kidnapping risk.
Remember that old lady in Florida that won 500 million+ just last year? Exactly. I had to Google it and while the info was readily available, I didn't see any news reports of somebody snatching her and mailing her ear to somebody in order to squeeze some ransom dough.
Grifters are a bigger concern than kidnappers.
