I love Houston, but preferring to visit there over NYC is crazy.

That is just crazy talk. Alamo and River Walk... Compared to NYC...

I could understand not wanting to live there, one reason being cost of living

I don't like that many people in one place.

I do find their subways incredibly convenient and the skyline is beautiful.

But I'd much prefer the sights of Denver or the quaintness of SA.

I can totally understand not wanting to live in NYC

but the hate over it in here is pretty laughable

it's a world class city with something for everyone

Most probably have never actually been and just know what they've seen on TV or read on the Internet

I'd like to hear what these "Not Even Close" people think is better than NYC in America. Can't wait for your likely well traveled responses.

It's individual preferences. Probably no other city in the country offers what NYC does. I just like to disagree with Rex.

I love Key West. Laid back, great fishing and diving, can wear shorts and flip flops everywhere, can cover the entire city on foot for the most part, decent food. Way different from NYC. The wife likes to go places like NYC, London, Vegas, Chicago and dress up and go out. So we alternate vacations. She LOVES NYC.

NYC is an awesome city and I can't wait to get a chance to go back, but to say it is the best place in the country is laughable. It's definitely in my top 3 cities and probably should be number 1 if it wasn't for personal bias.

There is too much amazing in this country besides cities for it to be the best place overall though.

People will be angry when I say this but most people that hate New York are easily intimidated and/or loners..

I can't just walk out of my house and see the same people every day that is so fricking depressing.

This

If it wasn't for the weather several months out of the year I would absolutely LOVE to live in NY

People give me shite for living in the CBD in nola but I enjoy taking the elevator down everyday and always seeing new shite. I thrive in an urban environment. Nola is probably the smallest city I could see myself living in long term at this point. Although it does well because it's more urban than many other bigger cities that have fell victim to sprawl (ala Cities in Tx, Ca). The hustle and bustle is just more lively.

The most over rated part of the "American Dream" is a yard. frick having a yard. I think I read a stat recently where the avg adult American that moved out to the suburbs and over spent on a yard spends less than 20 minutes a week out in the yard enjoying it.

There is probably some truth to this. I need to do some major landscaping in my yards this spring and am dreading it.

I finally agree with Rex on something. NYC is pretty damn awesome. Can't wait to go back.

If you want a yard then live by a park....its a yard that someone else maintains

I will say that I miss being able to just open the front door and let the dogs outside to go to the bathroom. Other than that, I don't miss having a yard at all.

If you don't go with a open mind, only looking for the negatives. Probably not going to like it.
Appearance is another thing. Maybe take the cap off.
As for the Quarter, it needs pissers like they have in Antwerp. Over by the harbor. So I have been told.

I have a bunch of green space behind my home that is technically not my yard. My neighborhood mows it and takes care of it.

My dog is trained so I just let him out and he goes to the bathroom and runs back inside. It's great when it's 20 degrees and/or raining out
