It is always amazing how much some posters on the OT know about other parts the world, at the same time it is equally amazing how little some posters on the OT know about other parts of the world.

I already live here but not where I want to be. If I had my choice I'd live in Namibia or Sao Tome.

North Africa unfortunately is a shithole right now. If I cant choose SA, then probably Ghana. Have heard really good things about it.

Agree with Angola

I lived there. Crime has gotten really bad and it's unbelievably expensive to live there.

Not sure why people are saying Angola.

Good call on Namibia.

Totally agree, it has to be listed among the worst places to live in Africa.

This is going to come off as racist, well because everything is racist these days, but it's really amazing how an entire gigantic continent can be so devoid of civilized society.

It's almost impossible.

I've done a fair amount of reading on this because Africa has always fascinated me.

The answers aren't pretty.

Colonialism was pretty awful for Africa but I'm sure people on here don't want to hear about all of that and there's plenty of reading on that subject (example, when the UK left I think it was Ghana, the uk destroyed every government record in the country out of spite leaving the new uneducated government with no knowledge.)

Cold War and communism (a hugely ignored feature of African politics) and dictators since have been bad. The US and the Soviets supported some evil people and this caused a ton of civil wars.

Tribalism is an issue.

And a major major issue is they brain drain. If you get educated in Africa, chances are you are from a rich family and will leave. I remember reading something that in he 1960s, one country of several million with a decent (relatively) education system had 10 accountants in the entire country.

Africa-America

Serious question. What percentage of people who identify as AA could name one country in Africa?

Is that percentage greater or lesser than the amount who think Africa IS a country.
