Geographically it’s

Deep South:
East Tx, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, North FL

Mid South:
AR, TN, NC, East OK

Upper South:
KY, MO, VA

Culturally it’s
South: Tx, Ok, Mo, Ky, Va, NC, Fl
Deep South: SC, GA, MS, AL, LA, AR, TN

Before yall try to say Eastern OK isn’t southern, go spend some time there. It’s culturally very similar to Arkansas and western Tn. Much different than the rest of OK.

How is Kentucky Deep South? It doesn’t even border the gulf. The only Deep South state that doesn’t border the gulf is SC

I might add north FL as well but won’t argue too much with this.

Tell that to them Pulaski boys.

This is pretty solid in the sense that it captures the run up the Mississippi Delta. My biased opinion would even include Dunklin and Pemiscot Counties from Missouri (those bottom 2 counties).

If you've ever been there, you'd never guess you were in Missouri.

I am pretty sure the deep south is Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

The Gulf Coast is not part of the Deep South. The economy, culture, and history are very different.

I've always said Lake Charles to Pensacola, the I-10 corridor is its own cultural state. aka the Gulf Coast.

It is just a matter of looking at folkways. Areas are settled from water, usually coast, in. The upper and lower South are both traced back to early westward migration from the original 13. The Gulf Coast was settled by the French and Spanish. Cultural influence and commerce was connected to the Caribbean instead of Europe. New Orleans and south Louisiana adds another layer of complexity from migration.

Georgia would be ok except the 5 or so major cities. Those don’t mesh well with the electoral voting.

And i don’t think the mason dixon line is it anymore. I think it has gotten much closer to the gulf coast

Man come on. LC isn’t even in the same cultural as its neighbor to the east in its own state.

LC is culturally more akin to Beaumont than it is to Lafayette. Your logic is true if you remove South central Louisiana. There’s no place on earth like Acadiana

Areas were it rarely, if ever, snows - excluding South Florida and South Texas which have been colonized by "invasive species" so as to eradicate the indigenous redneck ecosystem.

The true deep south is Birmingham AL and below to the Florida line, but you would keep the panhandle. The western boundary would be Little Rock.

It still is to an extent, but there has been, and continues to be, a considerable amount of interstate migration into ETX from the west. Give it 5-10 years and it's likely no longer "deep south"
