If you ever do mention a trade. Go with Electrician apprenticeship.
Welding sucks arse and its hot and ya get burned and shocked.
Plumbing is dirty at times and can be a shitty job.
I weld/Fit at the moment and one of my stepsons is an electrician. Hes the only child who didnt try or complete college.
He 4 years removed from HS and has a company truck makes 26 and hour and hes not even certified. He was in an apprenticeship program and stopped bc they worked 6 days a week and worked alot out of town. So he left Doleac and went to the Brother thats not union another Doleac and is happy. He kicked himself.in the arse and wished he would've stayed in the program. He.just didnt have a life.

Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Physical Therapist, Medical Field, Law Degree. In that order... or go learn a Trade. Nothing else is guaranteed.

But that’s not just a trades problem.
Neurosurgeons have that problem.
They also have million dollar disability insurance and huge earning opportunities.
Plus they can still do other non surgical work.
Poor comparison.

Learn HVAC at ITI.
Work with a company for 10 years to gain experience, then go out on his own.

Sales
Industrial sales was my minor. It helped me more than my major did.
my theory is that business will always want a throat to choke. Companies aren't going to release large capex POs to AI customer support systems. People are already sick of dealing with "steve" in a Delhi call center in the personal lives, they don't want to deal with it in personal lives.
at least that is what i am banking on

The wealthiest people I know own one or multiple businesses. The 9-5 corporate world is designed to keep you poor.

But they are, though.
Amazon Connect is selling well.

Humans generally do not understand / appreciate exponential change (citing Elon M).
AI and computing general intelligence will be the great equalizer. I think it is prime for STEM disruption more than most. Along with robotics and trades get disrupted exponentially too.
Human experience businesses (and new ones that are forthcoming) seem “relatively” AI proof (and that is not to say immune at all).
All typical “smart” degree choices (some in your list) will be no more. I am no macro prognosticator but I suspect this will impact most posters’ lifetime.
I don’t think many can see beyond their own paradigm (me included) but computing general intelligence will exponentially increase the already exponential curve we are on (AI today) for most all parts of careers as we know them today.

My step-daughter is going that way. Very high pay and short hours. High demand.

not worth my time to try to fix most anything at this point. I just call the tradesman. They can do it in a quarter of the time it would take me.
Kudos to you, but I can't imagine living in a mindset of not saving money doing things I can do with my own hands.
I replaced all 4 brakes on my truck, parking brake, and a NOx sensor for $800 and a weekend. Shop wanted 3,100. I built a deck for my pool area for 6k in materials and my time, quotes were 15k or more. I just can't justify the money because of "time" when I'm able bodied.

I would advise him to join the coast guard reserves and look into the IBEW or some form.
