With AI coming to wipe out most white collar jobs, what suggestions would you give him as far as a major ?

If he doesn’t want to listen to libturd professors, send him to vo-tech. Make sure he can drive home while drinking tallboys and is up to date on the current child support laws.

Most people that recommend the trades have never done the trades. It destroys your body.

Sales
Industrial sales was my minor. It helped me more than my major did.

If he’s really smart… some type of bio engineering or aerospace engineering.. I firmly believe top end finance people will be in high demand but ultimately the most important aspect is making the connections and positioning yourself in the next wave.. Regardless of what people believe… AI will not completely decimate the white collar market.. capitalism requires continuous economic expansion via personal spending and . , Unless we can sustain a universal income which we can’t presently, we will have a middle class of office workers albeit scaled downwards
These of course don’t include the blue collar skilled and maintenance workforce

Tell him that college is a failed institution and the economy will collapse soon.
Tell him to stay at home, start a regenerative farm, and learn as much as you can about homesteading and living off the land
Learn how to shoot, workout, and prepare for what’s coming

We had this discussion a long time ago. My wife is a cloud, data systems and SAP architect. My daughter received a finance degree in 2023 with an emphasis on commercial real estate. She's working as a financial analyst with the Investment Management Group at Greystar, where they manage an $80 billion portfolio.
My son is in his sophomore year and deep into finals, in engineering, and his emphasis is automotive and aerodynamics. He already holds a ton of auto mechanic certs.

Definitely something in the STEM disciplines. I would argue that what he chooses as his major is less important than his ability to build a network amongst students & faculty and to learn how to be independent, both as a person and in the 'workplace.'
