A lot of our ancestors were undesirables at one point, especially if you have ancestors who have connections to early Louisiana and Gulf Coast settlers.

Yes to Germany, but only because I have a niche hobby. Unless there's something you just can't find here, or find a lot of, there is no good reason to move to most of Europe.

You can find just about everything here- when you look at average incomes over there and compare it with expense, it's nowhere near the quality of life that can be had here. The UK is between West Virginia and Mississippi in GDP per capita

I think Scotland would be hard to pass up.

I guess if you have generational wealth.

The UK, Scotland and Ireland live at a much lower relative wealth level than what we do in the US.

Not to mention the weather over there makes the pacific NW look like FL.

Hard pass.

Yeah I’ve never really understood this desire unless you’re a 1st, 2nd or maybe 3rd gen US citizen.

Someone way up the family tree who I’ve never met lived in a place, and that person or their kid either fled or was run out of that place…and I want to go live there for what reason exactly?

I've lived in Germany for a year now and love it. Didn't have to give up my citizenship but I have the opportunity to if I want.

under this condition, then yes. France, Wales, England. Interpreting what you said as the good of these nations without the bad (islam, politics)

under the condition of current reality- no.

it baffles me why anyone would voluntarily relocate to another country.

Better climate? Lower cost of living? I see all these expat YouTube channels of Americans living in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Spain, Portugal, etc. Whether it's due to a sense of adventure or financial necessity, I can't hold it against them. I'm seriously considering doing it myself eventually. It might only be for a few years and there's no way that I would ever renounce my U.S. citizenship though.

France? frick that.

I worked and lived in France for a bit. Lived in a house on the Mediterranean in a small village. Was a very pleasant lifestyle. Small bakery, grocery, butcher just a 5 minute walk away. I could live like that.

Now, there are certainly issues that France should address (they haven’t made immigrants assimilate enough - no country does anymore it seems), but the French do know how to enjoy life.

It is beautiful, but it doesn't make the quality of life any better.

With what happened in Nola this week, and all the H1B debate, etc...

Ive been thinking about what it means to be "American" and assimilation and all that...

I think my definition is the more you pay no mind to where you are "from" the more American you are.

I simply dont really know what my ancestry is. The people ended up in Louisiana 100s of years ago. My ancestry is American. Aint no trading.

Im sure a portion of people wont like this definition or view point, but to each their own. Burn the ships, Merica.

I have American and Canadian citizenship currently, and I'm gathering up the needed documents to prove my German citizenship. I can basically live anywhere in North America and Europe without trading in anything.
