Don't know why you would assume that.

Cobain was a pretty overrated front man that had his legend grow immensely after his death.

I'm with you on Van Zant. That plane crash killing Ronnie and Steve took out some great talent who were still in their prime imo.

ETA: Stevie Ray and Cliff Burton are two good answers as well.
