If you could move anywhere in the south, where would you move and why?

I plan on moving in a couple of years and I start the job search around now. Wife and I are pretty much open to going anywhere in the south. Reasonable cost of living is the only thing we are concerned about.

I've been looking into Savannah, Chattanooga, Knoxville, the NC triangle. But honestly don't know much about these cities one way or the other .

Where would the OT go?

In order:

1. Nashville
2. Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area
3. Charleston
4. Asheville

And nowhere else that comes to mind that I’d be interested in.

New Orleans could be thrilling, in a Hunger Games kind of way.

Are you leaving Baton Rouge for these places? Just curious.

I would probably go to a place like Tennessee, maybe even Kentucky. I enjoy all four seasons. Tennessee is gorgeous in the fall.

What's your primary reason to leave? Schools? Jobs? What exactly are you trying to escape? You need to help us understand your motivations in order for us to better guide your life decision.

Nashville.

Sure with money.

OP made it sound like they aren't rolling in the dough. Nashville is getting congested and expensive. Awesome city though.

I'd say Birmingham, honestly. Cost of living is perfect and the city is only improving every year. Charleston would be awesome.

Bigger city in FL.

No state income tax. Relatively low cost of living. Low crime in many areas. Great weather and you will be near the water.

Compared to other places in the south Nashville might be on the higher end, but you don’t have to be “rolling in the dough” to live well there. Hell there are some great houses available for less than $450k. Not calling that super cheap but it’s not exactly expensive.

I live there now.

Metro Atlanta.

If I could choose other places, they would be, in no particular order:

!. Ashville
2. Savannah
3. Nashville
4. Chattanooga
5. Blue Mountain Beach

We are probably moving to Nashville when the kids get out of school this year. So that’s my pick.

It's one of the most dangerous cities in the US with Detroit type demographics.... with some nice suburbs
