We lived in Waynesville for 2 years, ended up moving back down south. The town really seems cute as a visitor, but living there is not that great. Once you do the 10 or 12 things there are to do, it’s kinda boring. I guess you could always go to the breweries in Asheville and get lectured by all the alphabet people, great times.
Also of note, there is a very large homeless population in Waynesville. I can’t even count how many times I saw people sleeping out, or defacating in the Walmart parking lot. The reason for the spike in the homeless population is the creation of the “pathways center” in Waynesville. All of the surrounding municipalities haul their homeless to Waynesville because they have resources. Most get kicked out of Pathways because of drug use and end up outdoors all over West Waynesville.

Key West That's an interesting choice. Place really has the most 'end of the world' feel of any place I've been to in the Continental US. I guess if that's something you can deal with, or even find desirable, it would be a nice place. It strikes me as the type of thing that would get old quick, though.
Amazon becomes your favorite place to shop when you live in KW. There’s not much in terms of supermarkets or big box stores. When you need a medical specialist you’re making the 4 hour drive to Miami regularly.
There’s very little crime, it’s easy to get around, and the people are pretty chill. Way worse places to live IMO.

Everyone says this until they factor in travel to and from an airport. I for one must live within 30 minutes of an airport. The second disqualification for me is the access to medical resources. Things come along in life, and needing to commute hours for healthcare becomes impossible.
We picked a second home by accessibility to those things and a downtown with other amenities.

Wrong. My wife grew up about an hour from there in SC. We stayed there in a cabin using GA mountain rentals.
The Old Sautee Store is pretty cool & their cheese is on par with State's.
I've been to Helen Oktober fest several times. Very nice part of the country.
The Nacoochee Valley area is a beautiful place.

Anywhere in the US? That requires too much contemplation but somewhere close to LA? Definitely, NW Arkansas or Fairhope Alabama

Lower Alabama or Central Florida… but away from everything. 500 acres at least.

For work I had to live out of state for about a year each project. In order of favorite to least favorite:
1.Raleigh NC - will be purchasing property there. Loved every second. Clean and functional. Great sense of class, progressive in the right way while keeping southern roots/charm.
2.Saratoga Springs NY - Amazing.
3. South Jersey (yes it was actually awesome once you give it a chance)
4. Austin TX - great for a bit but the dirt and riff raff was too much unless you were on the west side. Felt like an oven in the summer.
5. Nashville TN - Fun for a period of time, but if you are not head over heels in love with country music and hot chicken Goodluck.
6. Pensacola FL. - Trash
