Any place I can piss off my porch while shooting a gun and no one would even notice. The older I get the less I like being around other people. Give me wide open spaces and no neighbors within earshot

Utah. SLC down to Provo fits the bill here. No humidity. 4 distinct seasons. Summers are incredible. Winters in the Utah valley more mild than most realize (except this most recent winter)

You can really isolate down towards Nephi.

Where I'm at, out here in the Virginia countryside. Great balance of good schools, jobs, quality of living, things to do and cool indoor/outdoor places to see within a 2 hour drive without any weather extremes. Change of seasons.

On the other hand, looking forward to two years from now when kids are out of school. Thats when I retire, and my younger wife the travel nurse and I will go live in all these places you all are talking about, 13 weeks at a time.

Places like:
Austin
Nashville
Boise
The Springs
NYC
St Amant
Paso Robles
Reno/Tahoe
Naples
My hometown Charleston SC

Can't wait.

Haines, AK. 70 miles north of here at the head of a fjord, 3,000 residents, extreme sports center, on the sea and a major river as well as a highway connecting to the Alaska Hwy (Driving by Kluana National Park in Canada.)

Its kind of a throwback to the 50s. No outside chain anything, everything is local. Youre also allowed to subsistence fish/hunt. Glacier Bay NP, Kluana NP, Tatshenshini/Alsek River system, Wrangell St. Elias NP are adjacent. Maritime climate influence, lots of snow, but 4 seasons and not bitter cold. 70 degree summers.

Northern Georgia maybe Dillard or thereabouts; that or on a nice large spread in the country somewhere in rural Florida.

Monterey Peninsula is Gods Country Baw

I was there for work recently & it’s indeed quite awesome! That’s not really my idea of a beach though. The water is too damn cold.

Gorgeous scenery, but there’s no way you could live there long term. In fact, I bet you wouldn’t last 1 winter season.

Wanna really nice house up on the Bountiful benches? For the right price, it could be yours. You can see all the way past Ogden from the back deck.

While it wouldn’t be, my first choice, a very sneaky, underrated pick would be Iowa city, Iowa. It’s a very nice town clean and safe $200,000 ago very long way there.

Say both you and SO were remote making about 200k combined. Where would it be.

Be pretty limited on $200K a year between two salaries. Probably where we are now.

If it were matter of having lotto type money though I'd have a place on the intercoastal somewhere south of cape Canaveral and north of Fort Lauderdale...probably around Stuart.

San Diego Area

2 people living in San Diego on $200K a year would be living about like someone in Atlanta living on $100K a year. It is a sho nuff nice area but incredibly expensive.

Already live in one of the targeted cities in the country for moving: Nashville. And we probably will never move.

BUT..

Always thought I'd like to live in North Carolina. Say Boone/Blowing Rock or Brevard.

Probably southern West Virginia. Lot's of wild land areas, plenty of water and doesn't have brutal cold weather.

Ive been in the area over 20 years, and want more winter, not less.

Its too warm IMO in winter. I'd prefer less freeze/thaw cycles.

Millions live in Norway, our climate is similar to coastal Norway.

After living in Utah, I now find myself wishing I was back down south. This area is great in the summertime, but winters are long and extremely white most years. I would love to be somewhere on the Georgia or SC coast.

I left the south in 2006 and was fortunate to live in several countries and several states. New Mexico was fantastic, but it is really hard to stay out of the south after living elsewhere...home beckons.
