Stanford is for sure, rice is up there

If you can get into any of them it’s about being specific of what you want to do after .

If I'm paying, A&M. If its a full ride, Stanford or Vandy.

Other than an ivy (my kid's not going to fricking Brown, mind you), or a service academy...Virginia, maybe?

Not a bad option....join the military and then let the military pay for it.

The question isn’t tuition related or “college is stupid” related.

I’d also go with Stanford. It’s upper crust of achievers but doesn’t come across as waspy as the Ivy’s. Plus the strongest athletic program of the academic elite

I’d like for my boy to go to Stanford.

Depends on how smart they are. If they could survive the rigors probably MIT.

MIT, Harvard, or Yale

Any of the ivy leagues of course. Then on the cusp of ivys like Vandy and Stanford. eta forgot MIT. I'd probably choose MIT over any Ivys.

Ivy, Stanford, Claremont Colleges, Duke. Super nerds? Cal Tech or MIT

Oxford, MIT, or Cal Tech.

I think Stanford is at the level of the Ivy schools at this point

MIT, Ivy League, Stanford

So a while back someone posted here that people from Berkeley all have chips on their shoulders and an inferiority complex (because Stanford). While I agree that people from Berkeley have chips on their shoulders, I guarantee you that people from Berkeley do not have an inferiority complex.

If you look at academic rankings, the University of California is typically a top 5 university in a sea of rich private universities:

Academic Ranking of World Universities
Cal #5

Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings
Cal #6

Looking outside of academics:

How about startup founders by university?
Cal #3

How about startup CEOs by university?
Cal #6

Now let's look at the size of endowment:
1. Harvard University $34.5B
4. Stanford University $22.4B
7. MIT $13.2B
14. The whole University of California System $8.3B (4th among publics)

You may dislike Berkeley because of perceived politics (which is more of a reflection of the city than the campus), but the reason people from Berkeley have massive chips on their shoulders is because of this perception that Stanford is a West Coast Ivy, and Cal never enters most people's minds when they think of the best of the best. The reality is, private schools coddle their students (relatively speaking) because these future alumni are what pad their endowment. Public universities are dog-eat-dog, and places like Cal will chew you up and spit you out (which for me is a point in favor of the privates ).
