Stanford. Their alumni network has become quite impressive.

Have a buddy that is about to send his twins to Duke and GT, respectively. That's a helluva yearly bill.

So a while back someone posted here that people from Berkeley all have chips on their shoulders and an inferiority complex (because Stanford). While I agree that people from Berkeley have chips on their shoulders, I guarantee you that people from Berkeley do not have an inferiority complex.

LOL. Duke grads used to claim to be the Harvard of the south. Finally caught on that Harvard hadn't bothered to represent itself as the Duke of the north. So is berzerkely the Stanford of the Bay Area?

Is tuition still 0, if they are a junior or senior and decide to withdraw?

I know at USMA if you do that you’re on the hook to pay all that back

My son chose his own schools. He received his BA from Washington & Lee; attended Columbia; and received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins. I do not believe that any of those institutions would have accepted me.

I don’t know but if my child was accepted to the Air Force Academy I would hope they follow through until the end.

I went to Troy for 4 years and quit with only a little left until graduation. I was immature and didn’t really care about school. The thing that really turned me around was the Air Force. So, if they are not already mature enough and the AFA or any other service academy doesn’t make them grow up I don’t know what will.

Kid number one is having a good run at Colorado School of Mines. Perfect fit. Sharp kids. Fairly conservative. Excellent faculty.

If you include tuition, housing, training costs, academic fees, and uniforms I wouldn’t be surprised if the Air Force invests at least 250k in each cadet

Depends on how smart they are. If they could survive the rigors probably MIT. I have a cousin there that got a full ride but she's struggling going from smartest kid in the school to average at best.

This makes no sense. Surely a person who’s on a full ride to any university is well above average at said university.

It makes perfect sense, first of all no one at MIT, Harvard etc. is on a full ride academic scholarship, these schools have no need to hand out scholarships to attract top students, they have their pick of the best of the best, if you are accepted you will receive the money needed to attend based on your families financial need, 70% of Harvard students receive financial aid, 20% of them are paying nothing to attend. Back to the OP's point about being average at MIT, if you are accepted to MIT you are the crème of the crop, you likely had a near perfect ACT or SAT score, a 4.0+ gpa, took nothing but honors classes, most likely falling in the gifted range of intelligence, but so did every single student at MIT. What was considered being a academic superstar wherever you came from is just the average student at MIT, many kids that never made less than a A+ in all of their grade school years will be struggling for a C- there.
LINK

"At MIT, we make all our undergraduate admissions decision without regard to family financial circumstances. We award all our aid based on financial need. We do not award aid based on academic merit or athletic achievement. We meet the full determined need of each student."

Since you brought it up, I’d like to hear some of concrete qualifications that will get your son into Stanford. Mind sharing?

I’m sure you’re just trolling but what do you mean with your response? I assume the Air Force wouldn’t take you so you’re just bitter.

Haha. I went to Annapolis. It is all in good fun with the Community College of the Rockies. It is a great school. As I said before, as far as service academies go, USCGA or USMMA.

3.8 unweighted gpa...I’m sure it’s over 4 when taking into account all of the honors classes.

Due to AP classes, he’ll graduate high school next year with almost an associate degree if he were to stay in-state

30 composite ACT on the first try, took it again yesterday.

Long history of volunteer work

3 sport athlete

Probably not an elite resume by Stanford standards, but I’m hopeful.

Eh, probably Emory. Close to home, easier to get into as a legacy, has one hell of a business school.
