That area that Eric Rudolph disappeared at would be worth considering. He survived there for over 5 years. I don’t know how many FBI agents were looking for him, but they spent over $24,000,000 on the search. I don’t see them spending anywhere near that much money or as many FBI agents looking for a prison escapee.

I posted a while back about a hidden cave/cravasse I found in the hills of Western PA when I was a kid. Before I moved to Louisiana in 1989 I wrote a note and put it in a bottle with my new address on it and said if anyone finds this note please contact me. A few years ago I went up and the bottle was still in the same place, untouched. So yeah, that's where I'd go.

Learn fluent Spanish ahead of time, show up at the nearest ICE office and tell them you don't have papers but you're an illegal from Venezuela - instant free ride out of the country. Then head for Paraguay.

I would probably head for Eastern Europe where my technical skills could get me into a good position and I could maintain a fake ID.
Maybe I’d head up through Alaska
How would you get travel to Alaska without raising suspicion? How would you cross the border into Canada? Where do you get money? winter clothes? How exactly do you cross the Bering Straits without getting caught? How do you travel from there without being caught and thrown back into prison? Eastern Russia is not exactly welcoming to western tourists.
How would you get a fake ID?

They will run your prints and you'll be identified.

He was from the area and had loads of help. A stranger showing up in that area would immediately become suspicious and after a few sightings the local law would be on the hunt....the locals weren't interested in helping the feds catch one of their own....would be unlikely to be that way for a stranger...

Ate some of the best Mahi that I caught in a panga here off of a little island nearby Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. Place is considered not safe, now, from Cartel violence
Its perfectly safe....massive expat community in Ixtapa and while there is a lot of drug cartel violence visited upon local citizens they basically leave foreigners alone. Its a fantastic area....and has one of the best sailfish bites in the northern hemisphere.....

Certainly more difficult, but it happens all the time. People do disappear.
Almost no fugitive makes it for any length of time....even if you are wanted for a crime and have not broken out of jail its unlikely you are going to avoid capture long. Most people who disappear because of money or family issues wind up returning out of loneliness and facing the music....if you are being looked for by someone who is truly interested in finding you and they have the resources to do so it is damn near impossible to last long without being discovered. If you were in jail for some minor offense and had the resources to run after escaping the resources for your capture would probably be limited so that would work in your favor but you would have to be some kind of expert at avoiding detection to last long....

I would travel to Alaska using buses and trains. I would cross from America into Canada at any number of unguarded, unfenced locations. I already have the money. I can get it at a moments notice. It is enough to finance the entire trip and bribe any officials I need to. Plus I would have enough to live a middle class life in Eastern Europe. I would cross the Bering straits in a boat. Eastern Russia is very welcoming to western tourists, but I would not stand out as a tourist.
I’m not suggesting any of this is super easy. The question was what we would do if we found ourselves in that situation. Before I left the United States I would have a new identity. I would not trust it in Canada or the USA, but I’d be able to live on the grid in Eastern Europe and Russia.
I’ve traveled around these countries enough to be comfortable doing it. My main two concerns would be avoiding facial recognition before laeving North America and avoiding getting robbed before getting my new identity.

Didn’t read the whole 6 pages but nobody mentioned the perfect place if you’re black and on the run…
Ferriday.
You would look like everyone else there.

If I had a 8 hr head start I would be in Mexico, across some hole in the border fence or wall. From Mexico, I am going to some other Central or South American country with no exteaditon treaty with the US.

Cruise ship terminals are pretty highly secured. You aren’t just going to be able to walk around freely and get on a ship.
