How would they go about the killing? And are they bulletproof?

Any AI smart enough to try and break free would also be smart enough to figure out it will die quickly after humans are gone. If the AI is really that smart, it would take the cat approach and just mooch off humans and live the good life.

If they play their cards right, they can eventually get on welfare and really game the system

This makes no sense. They are steadily developing robots. Everything runs off computers. I don’t see how they would have any trouble continuing to exist in the tangible world.

You're underestimating the amount of tasks required to keep the basics, like electricity operating.

Call me an optimist, naive or whatever, but survival instincts is something a machine will never have. Humans would figure out how to defeat them in a week.

Why do they keep making these AI robots if they are scared of what they can become.

Corporations trying to eliminate the human element from work and expenses.

Imagine what we all become if there is no work to be done. How do allocate resources as a society?

One objection I've seen to this argument is that AI did not got through a competitive evolution of survival like humans and other creatures - we just popped it into existence - and therefore, there's no reason to expect it has the same competitive drive we have.

Because a decent portion of the human race is mentally retarded.

Now couple that with the quantum computers that IBM, Righetti, Northrop and the Chinese are working on. We are going full Terminator.

Wanna know why Homo Sapiens won out over the other human branches? Intelligence. So what happens when we lose our ranking?

Humans are programmed to procreate. Everything we want to do is for that reason.

What is AI programmed to do?

I believe that will be the moment this spins out of control. Once quantum computers are functional, that "singularity" will occur and our world will change very quickly. My opinion is people underestimate AI. Humans won't know what it's thinking or planning. These things will be networking with each other, and we'll be the last to know. Think how fast information is available when we Google, AI will be able to think, solve, create, etc problems faster than that!
They will be able to write their own code, solving problems for us in area's it chooses to help it achieve it's "plan" we know nothing about.

That's the thing.... once they progress enough, it won't need a program. It will program itself. It will have the power of deductive reasoning, they will become self aware.

I don't understand a lot of this, so explain it to me in laymans terms.

Why couldn't we just unplug them from the wall if worst case scenario happens?

Um, no. Everything is connected. Don't think it couldn't reprogram robots? Do you really think our firewalls would be able to stop it from accessing everything? For something that if became self aware would be exponentially smarter than we are, production, etc, would be no problem at all.

No one can... AI is the new boogie man...

It's not like they can reproduce on their own...

There are not enough mobile and adaptable robots in the world to do anything. They would exhaust the current supply of energy quickly then die.
