Doesn't matter if places have sidewalks. People will still walk and ride bikes in the middle of the street and act like you're the a-hole for driving a car there

I wouldn't live in a neighborhood without sidewalks. Very trashy.

We have a terrible to nonexistant public transportation system, outdated roads & bridges, and god awful traffic...
Not to mention a countryWIDE obesity problem...
Annnnnnnnd you want to get rid of sidewalks...

It is illegal to ride a bike on a regular sidewalk but the mouth breathers on this site always seem to forget this.

i thought it was illegal for bikes to ride on sidewalks
In Austin, it's illegal in some places like downtown but not others.
But generally, bike riders are supposed to use the road and obey all traffic laws

Useful or not, sidewalks have to be installed for liability reasons......if there were sidewalks, the first dumbass to get hit by a car would be awarded millions by a jury of his "peers" saying the city was negligent for having no place to walk.

The sidewalks in my neighborhood get a ton of use. It blows my mind that so many neighborhoods don't have them.
My two year old and I walk to the park in our neighborhood almost daily. Happy to have the sidewalk.
Not saying all neighborhoods need it though. I grew up in a nice neighborhood, it didn't have sidewalks.

I like sidewalks , but they need to be unobstructed. In my subdivision, cars parked in the drive way block a lot of them. You have to exit the sidewalk , walk into the street around the cars , and back onto the sidewalk again.

Neighborhoods without sidewalks are trashy.

My street has intermittent sidewalks. My sidewalk does not connect to either neighbor's house-they don't have them. There might be three in a row as the longest stretch.

All the fat fricks in the country, especially the south should take a few strolls around the block. That being said, you're probably right, since no fat fricks will take those strolls as they are unmotivated fat fricks.

I run through neighborhoods and I would use the sidewalks if I didn't care if I twisted my ankles every time out.
Yup same here, but to be honest in Nola the street surface normally isn't any better than the sidewalk surface

I come complete with 2 legs and 2 feet, and on occasion, I like to actually use them to move, so I’ll have to disagree.

People on bikes can legally "take the lane" in Louisiana. Often times, it's safer -- it makes you more visible to traffic coming up behind you, and it takes you out of the "door zone" of cars parallel parked on the street.
I bike quite a bit around Mid-city, Lakeview, and the Lakefront, and I will say most cars are respectful and maintain safe distances, but every once in a while, you get that one a-hole who thinks it's cool to pass you with just inches of clearance and that could mean serious injury to the biker who is following the law.
I was nearly clipped a few weeks ago in the right lane of Lakeshore drive when the car passing me had the entire left lane to use, but insisted on barely clearing me then cutting back right in front of me.
Bikers aren't perfect, but motorists aren't either, and being both a biker and motorist, I will tell you most bikers are usually paying much more attention to what's going on than most motorists.

Disagree. New Orleans sidewalks serve an important purpose. They give residents practice handling rugged terrain. That pays off when they visit places that aren't as flat.

bullshite. Sidewalks are always a good option

Sidewalks in subdivisions don't drain well. The grass prevents water from running off thus sidewalks become mini ponds that get bigger as the grassy areas rise in time.
This forces walkers onto the streets.

Exactly. They're called sidewalks, not siderides

That is actually against the law. I know cause I watch Parking Wars. Call the police and have them give tickets to all those cars.
